Job Title: Controller-Professional ServicesJob ID: SD77730622Location: Vancouver, BCOverview:The Controller role supports the Director, Finance, in providing exemplary accounting and financial analysis services for the firm, including the development of periodic and year-end financial statements, the supervision of Billing, Trust, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions, development and delivery of the firm's annual budget process, providing financial data analyses to senior management to help utilize firm resources to increase profitability, and support data driven growth. This role will also be responsible for the development and implementation of internal controls and operational processes to ensure that firm assets are appropriately safeguarded, as well as maintain financial models and internal reporting requirements. What you will be doing:
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements;
  • Establishing and maintaining and effective internal control environment to minimize operational risks due to fraud or error;
  • Researching and providing recommendations to the Director, Finance on accounting and compliance issues;
  • Supervising Accounts Receivable/Collections, Accounts Payable, Client Information Verification compliance, and general accounting functions;
  • Assisting in the development and monitoring of key performance indicators for all accounting functions;
  • Providing cross-training and support for all accounting functions;
  • Ensuring that the accounting system operates in an efficient and effective manner with a focus on continual improvement and exemplary customer service;
  • Serving as a liaison to external auditors;
  • Creating, preparing and maintaining various periodic ad hoc reports and analyses to support departmental and management decision-making
  • Development and implementation of the firm's budget and forecasting requirements and processes;
  • Establishing and maintaining internal reporting functions to support firm priorities, including the development of financial models to support strategic decision making;
  • Developing, documenting and maintaining appropriate reporting policies and procedures for various reporting processes and projects;
  • Completing ad hoc projects as requested by management
  • Other duties as assigned.
What you must have:
  • University undergraduate degree in a related field (business or accounting preferred);
  • A professional accounting designation in good standing;
  • A minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience;
  • A minimum of two years of managerial experience, with a proven ability to develop team relationships and
  • guide/lead a team to high quality results;
  • Professional manner with capacity to maintain high level of confidentiality;
  • Advanced computer skills with Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Experience with Elite 3E or similar ERP software and SQL;
  • Excellent communication skills and a focus on exceptional client service;
  • Experience in a professional services environment considered a strong asset.
  • Commitment to providing first-rate level of knowledge and prompt quality service;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen effectively and respond
  • appropriately;
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail to produce high quality and accurate work;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding the firm and its clients;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a contributing member in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated integrity, flexibility, professional judgement and collaborative approach to work;
