Agency Relations Assistant

Are you looking for a summer position where you can significantly impact the local community? Food Banks Mississauga's vision is a Mississauga where everyone is food secure. We lead our agency network to realize a food-secure Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.

We are looking for two separate summer placements for the Agency Relations Assistant role.

Job Purpose

  • Put your theoretical knowledge in social sciences, research, data collection and data analysis into action in a busy non-profit. Use the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced non-profit professionals.
  • Be part of Food Banks Mississauga's Annual Client Survey and contribute to the crucial process of program improvisation and growth.

Key Performance Areas

Data collection and management for Client Survey 2024

  • Collect data through telephone interviews with clients using a structured survey.
  • Visit select agencies within Food Banks Mississauga's network to conduct in-person client interviews.
  • Coordinate volunteers who are supporting data collection.
  • Keep track of the progress and completion rates in the data collection process.

Data analysis for Client Survey 2024

  • Support with data analysis to evaluate client profiles and understand trends around client satisfaction with Food Banks Mississauga's program.
  • Make data-driven recommendations for program improvement and growth through reports and key highlight presentations.
  • Present key findings and recommendations in Food Banks Mississauga's inter-departmental meeting.

Other tasks

  • Support staff with implementing other new or ongoing projects.

Mandatory Qualifications

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

Education and Experience

  • A post-secondary student with a focus on social work, social service work, community service work, or other related educational and work experiences.
  • Experience in frontline volunteering or work in the social services sector is an asset.

Skills, Competencies, and Qualities

  • Passion. A passion for mission-driven work and personal values aligned with those of FBM. Concern for and interest in issues of poverty, food security, and/or social justice.
  • Technical. Excellent skills in Google Apps for business (including Google Docs, Forms and Sheets) and MS Office. FBM is a cloud-based, paperless environment. Prior experience with conducting research and surveys in a charity/non-profit environment.
  • Flexibility/adaptability. Flexible, versatile, and tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. Adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions.
  • Relationship Building/Customer Service. Excellent Internal and external relationship-building skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with suppliers, staff, volunteers, and other relevant stakeholders. Provide superior service to both internal and external customers.
  • Problem-Solving skills. Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear, timely decisions which are in the best interests of FBM.
  • Communication. Speak, listen, and write English in a clear, confident, respectful, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. Superb phone manner.
  • Organization. Set goals, implement action plans, document, evaluate, and learn. Committed to exceeding standards. Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Role Details

Relationships: This position reports to the Agency Relations Coordinator, and includes frequent interaction with food bank users, agencies, and external organizations providing community support.

Position Type: 35 hours/week, hourly

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00am - 5:00pmWednesday from 9:00am - 8:00pm

Position Duration: 12 weeks

Compensation: $25.05/hour

Environment: This role is based from FBM, located at 4544 Eastgate Parkway, Mississauga ON. Hybrid work available.
