LOCATION: Head Office, Scarborough, ON

HOURS: Mon-Fri, 7 hours per day

SALARY: Hourly rate will increase to $27.10 after 12 months, $29.81 after 24 months

Who we are: Tropicana Community Services, a Toronto-based multiservice organization, provides all youth, newcomers, people of Black and Caribbean heritage and others in need with opportunities and alternatives that lead to success and positive life choices. Our mission is achieved through culturally appropriate programs such as counselling, childcare, educational, and employment services and youth development.

Who we look for: The Youth Development Program Facilitator will report directly to the Youth Development Program Supervisor and be responsible for the development and delivery of activities within the Youth Development & Education Department. In particular, the role of the Youth Development Program Facilitator will focus on group facilitation and mentorship of children and youth in Youth Development programming (i.e. Defy Your Label, Rise Above Youth).

What you will do:

  • Create and organize the delivery of Youth Development program content for to meet program goals and objectives and ultimately, the goals and objectives of the agency
  • Facilitate workshops and creative activities (for use in remote, on-site, in-school, and/or in the general community settings) according to program needs and demands
  • Facilitate year-round programming and outreach for Defy Your Label and/or Rise Above youth to attract and serve youth
  • Conduct workshops to support life skills acquisition and build on current skills in the areas of education, communication, health and wellness, stress management, self-esteem, and other related topics
  • Develop and maintain rapport with clients (i.e. program participants, parents/guardians) to track participants' progress in the program
  • Refer participants in need to additional assistance to Tropicana's other programs
  • Administer client and community surveys at the end of each program cycle to identify emerging needs of youth—with a particular focus on Black, Caribbean, and/or African youth in Tropicana's catchment

What you will need:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Counselling, Education, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in coordination and delivery of youth programs
  • Understanding of youth risk factors and strength based interventions
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Exceptional motivational skills and ability to develop rapport with youth
  • Highly proficient computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office applications and social media
  • Ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial environment
