We are currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, reporting to the Senior Process Engineer.

This role is based out of the Isowater Corporation office located at 40 Sandford Fleming Drive, Collingwood, Ontario, L9Y 4V7.

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will lead the Electrical Engineering team in achieving their targets and goals. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting research, designing, developing, installing, and validating devices and systems utilized in our manufacturing facility. Key responsibilities include establishing preventive maintenance protocols, calibration procedures, and testing methodologies for instrumentation equipment, updating relevant documentation in AutoCAD, documenting the installation process, and providing technical support as needed. Emphasis on advancing process automation to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (“OEE”) and Developing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (“SCADA”) for data transparency and reliability.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Operation of design processes to optimize the system
  • Procurement of instrumentation and supporting equipment
  • Installation of equipment in R&D and production environments
  • Performing calibration of process instrumentation
  • Providing technical support in Factory Acceptance Testing (“FAT”)
  • Developing and maintaining positive, sustainable client relationships
  • Creating installation, operation, validation, and maintenance documentation
  • Establishing & updating existing AutoCAD electrical drawings
  • Responding to process failure and participating in root-cause analysis exercises
  • Providing electrical technical support as needed to various departments
  • Participating in and adhering to health and safety initiatives and requirements
  • Managing and mentoring employees and interns
  • Providing input on specifying required process equipment, including error tolerances, communication protocols, and local installation standards

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Bachelor's degree or master's of science in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering
  • A minimum of 4 to 6 years of related engineering experience
  • Experience with standard electrical documentation, including Integrated Logistics Support (“ILDs”) and System Lifecycle Documentation (“SLDs”)
  • Ability to navigate and modify Programmable Logic Controller (“PLC”) systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Siemens Programmable Logic Controller (“PLC”) systems, components, and standard wiring practices
  • Aptitude for programming & PLC programming experience would be considered an asset
  • Proficient in generating Human-Machine Interface (“HMI”) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (“SCADA”) system development
  • Knowledge of control theory, including feedback-based control, sensor data filtering, and system modelling with a focus on linear time-invariant systems
  • Demonstrates knowledge of feedback-based control loops
  • Experience in troubleshooting instrumentation
  • Knowledge of digital networks and experience troubleshooting connection issues
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visual Basic for Application [“VBA”]) & AutoCAD
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to multitask, effectively prioritize duties, and execute tasks promptly
  • Flexible and adaptable with the ability to respond quickly to unplanned events or challenges
  • Desire to work in an innovative, fast-paced, changing environment
  • Possesses a strong work ethic, a mature self-starter who remains calm under pressure
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills and attention to detail are critical
  • You must be available and willing to participate in any required training
  • Comfortable working at heights & ability to lift up to 40lbs
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship from Isowater Corp
