INVEST OTTAWA – GLOBAL EXPANSION

WHY THIS ROLE:

Reporting to the Director, Business Development, this position contributes to the growth of Ottawa's economy by implementing, comprehensive prospection and promotion strategies to attract new investments to Ottawa from the Americas, and the retention of key multi-national accounts in the Ottawa region. This includes working closely with those accounts to secure incremental expansions. Additionally, you will be supporting the Director in achieving some sector focused deliverables.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Under the leadership of the Director, support the creation and implementation of a Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) strategy, as well as conduct and facilitate foreign direct investment needs assessments with clients
• Assist in overseeing some activities with external vendors, such as lead generators, researchers and others
• Liaise with other IO business units, including corporate services, to ensure BRE related business processes are followed
• Support the Director in prospecting, lead development and post-meeting follow-up to build and maintain a sales pipeline for lead generation and for potential BRE wins
• Support the Director and Senior Development Manager in BRE Campaigns
• Under the supervision of the Director, manage and monitor the pipeline for the team using Asana and Dynamics 365
• Support the Director in reviewing and developing quarterly business reports on sales pipeline
• Work with the Marketing Team on the execution of approved market relevant collateral
• Provide support on maintaining relevant and up-to-date client data in CRM
• Under the direction of the Director communicate with external stakeholders, clients and partners with the aim to advance FDI and BRE related projects
• Lead on special projects/initiatives to drive sector-specific and other development strategies as assigned
• Collaborate with team members on incoming delegations and outgoing sector-specific
trade missions into key markets
• Develop a local and international network of private, public, and government stakeholders to assist with all aspects of the BRE strategy (universities, BIAs, etc.)

• Establish yourself as lead contact for ongoing customer care
• Under the guidance of the Director, develop relationships within all levels of government for investment attraction including Trade Commissioner Services (TCS), associations, industry, academia etc.
• As delegated by the Director, liaise with local and international embassy contacts from target countries to develop opportunities for collaboration on incoming delegations, any planned BRE or trade missions, and follow up after missions

• Manage an assigned portfolio of BRE clients, conduct regular needs assessments, check-in's and establish yourself as a key point of contact to identify projects and opportunities for expansion
• Participate in sales/pipeline meetings and discuss projects in process with the Director and extended team
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:

▪ Basic understanding of the small and medium and large business markets in Ottawa
▪ A college diploma and certificates, or a bachelor's degree in Economics, Marketing, Commerce or Business Administration or an equivalent to minimum of 1 year work experience in a similar role.
▪ Some experience in business development and/or international business is an asset
▪ Self-starter, motivated learner and hard worker
▪ Ability to work in a small team as well as independently
▪ Exceptional commitment to customer service
▪ Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
▪ Ability to establish priorities for own workload based upon need for immediate action, work objectives and schedules requiring independent judgment
▪ Extracts key issues from complex, ambiguous and rapidly changing environments
▪ Engages others to develop a compelling and responsive vision
▪ Communicates with clarity and conviction
▪ Engages others to translate implementation strategies into concrete objectives
▪ Creates opportunities for open and constructive dialogue
▪ Informs decision-making with sound understanding of context, data and evidence
▪ Basic knowledge of countries related to this market
▪ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and any applicable apps, databases and CRM software
▪ Excellent written and verbal presentation skills are a requirement
▪ This position may require long and /or irregular hours including attendance at a number of external functions representing Invest Ottawa, including some travel (up to 25%)
