Position Title: Senior Mine Engineer

Reporting to the Principal Mine Engineer, the Senior Mine Engineer is the advanced working level professional contributing to basic and detailed engineering and construction activities for the Eskay Creek Revitalization project. The Senior Mine Engineer will also contribute to development of technical studies and will support the execution of mining related activities to support the project.

Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

The Senior Mine Engineer performs a wide range of duties including some or all the following:

  • Mine Design, Long-Range and Short-Range Mine Production Planning, Mine Waste Management Planning, Geotechnical Studies, Reserve Calculations, Capital Projects, Project Engineering, and Regulatory Compliance.
  • Contribute to and advise on technical & due diligence studies, operational assistance, and project management.
  • Liase with the internal Sustainability team, consultants, and external stakeholders to support permitting efforts and associated engineering requirements.
  • Manage the financial model and evaluate strategic mine plan options.
  • Support technical scope development, bid analysis, and recommendation to award documentation relating to key tender packages for mine construction and operational readiness.
  • Execution leadership for construction projects and/or direction of contractors/consultants.
  • Exhibit a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters.
  • Any other duties reasonably assigned to you by the employer.

The Ideal Candidate

Academic / Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mine engineering or other related discipline is required.
  • P.Eng. designation is required (registration with or ability to register with EGBC preferred).

Required Skills / Experience:

  • 7+ years Open-Pit mining experience (technical and production), with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience with flexibility and creativity in dealing with mine design, scheduling, production planning, and other complex technical challenges.
  • Proficient with mine planning, design and scheduling software packages (Deswik preferred).
  • Experience supporting technical studies (PEA, PFS, FS, other), economic trade-off analyses, and cost estimation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable making recommendations.
  • Capability to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, with experience working on greenfield or brownfield start-up projects being considered an asset.
  • Financial modelling and/or geotechnical expertise are highly desirable, though not required.
  • Familiarity with pit-shell optimization, stockpile blending, NSR calculations desirable.
  • Underground technical and study experience is desirable, though not required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

Working Location and Conditions:

The successful candidate will be based in Skeena's Vancouver office, working on a Monday to Friday schedule. Hybrid working arrangements may be considered.

This position requires the incumbent to work away from home occasionally, and to be able to travel to Skeena's remote sites.

This position requires the incumbent to be able to spend extended periods sitting and working on computers. Occasional light lifting is required (up to twenty-five pounds) and at times, the job will require travelling to different work locations or events outside of regular office hours.
