Position Title: Engineering Co-op Student (4- or 8-months term)

Reporting to the Project Engineer, The Engineering Co-op Student will be working on a rotational basis for 4- or 8-months term. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with experienced construction, environmental, and mining professionals. The successful candidate will be assisting in coordinating all construction-related activities at the mine site. This role will involve construction progress tracking, material tracking and balancing, and survey reconciliation. The Engineering Co-op Student will work closely with Skeena operations team, assist in preparing work plans and work packages, order, and schedule material deliveries, ensure the quality of field operations.

Responsibilities(Including but not limited to-

The Engineering Co-op Student will be supporting an expanding established projects execution team and will perform a wide range of duties including:

  • Maintain a material balance register (aggregates, borrow sources, waste dumps, etc.)
  • Communicate daily cost, productivity, KPIs and schedule data to Construction Supervisors
  • Support Construction Supervisors to analyze daily production data and look for improvements.
  • Assist in providing operational input for forecasting, planning, and scheduling.
  • Upload LEM and load count data in daily tracking databases.
  • Compile Daily Cost Reports and Daily Reports.
  • Update daily quantities and database.
  • Work with Survey team on volume reconciliation.
  • Assist engineers with various design scopes of work for execution in the general mine operational areas.

The Ideal Candidate

Academic / Educational Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a recognized and accredited post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term.
  • Working towards an undergraduate degree in (Mining, Civil, Geological, Mechanical) Engineering.

Skills /Experience:

  • Previous co-op work terms are highly preferrable.
  • Experience with 3D design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil3D).
  • Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation.
  • Good work ethic and a strong attitude towards safety are essential requirements.
  • Valid Canadian Driver's License
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely.
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Capability to work in a self-directed manner and possess good time management skills.

Working Conditions:

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation. This is a 4 or 8 – month work term starting in May 2024. Indicate your availability in your application.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from various locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
