Position Overview:
ERIS has an opportunity for a Data Manager on the data team, reporting to the Director, Research & Data. The Data Manager will lead a small team of highly skilled data professionals while contributing to initiatives that ensure the consistency, quality, and reliability of ERIS data. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance, mentorship, and organizational support to team members, contribute to their professional development, and help establish standards and best practices across the data team. This is a full-time hybrid position based in our Toronto office, with a 35-hour work week. The salary range will be $65,000 - $75,000.
Specific Responsibilities and Daily Tasks:
- Team Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage the Data Integration Specialist team by setting clear priorities, defining measurable deliverables, and ensuring timely delivery of projects.
- Provide technical guidance, feedback, and strategies for time management and organization.
- Support the professional development of team members through delegation, coaching, regular one-on-one meetings, and performance feedback.
- Lead Initiatives to Ensure Data Quality and Consistency
- Lead initiatives to improve the quality, consistency, and reliability of data processes and outputs.
- Develop and maintain standards for: technical strategies used in data pipeline procedures under varying data conditions, naming conventions and acronyms for report labels, other processes and documentation that would benefit from standardization.
- Develop and maintain clear documentation for Workflow Engine tasks and associated standards.
- Train team members on established standards and follow up to ensure adherence.
- Investigate and respond to data-related questions from production teams, sales teams, and clients on a rotational basis alongside the Data Collection Manager and Director.
- Provide backup technical support for the rotational lead responsible for handling inquiries.
- Assist the Director and Data Engineer in resolving urgent or high-priority data issues.
- Spend 12 days per week working on data pipeline tasks, including reviewing the work completed by team members.
- Liaise with the Data Collection Manager and Data Engineer to align priorities related to data loads, development initiatives, and project work, while identifying the best solutions for data-related challenges and initiatives.
- Foster an engaging, productive, and inclusive team culture that promotes accountability, professional growth, and strong collaboration.
Knowledge & Educational Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience leading or managing a small team.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience leading collaborative initiatives and developing processes, standards, or code used by other team members.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience investigating data anomalies and providing clear, professional, and diplomatic responses.
- Experience using a variety of tools, queries, and analytical approaches to assess issues and provide recommendations based on detailed analysis.
- Advanced SQL skills and strong knowledge of relational databases.
- Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated sound judgment and professionalism in interactions with others.
- Quick and enthusiastic learner with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
