Position Summary

The Toxicology Laboratory Technician supports the analytical testing of nicotine, cannabis, and other consumer products to identify and quantify toxicants and related compounds. This role performs sample preparation, operates advanced analytical instruments, and ensures data quality in compliance with Labstat's ISO 17025 accreditation and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze samples from tobacco, nicotine, cannabis, and related consumer products for toxicological compounds.

  • Perform extractions, dilutions, and derivatizations following validated methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, and related systems.

  • Conduct quality control and calibration checks to ensure analytical accuracy and instrument performance.

  • Record all results and observations in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in accordance with data integrity requirements.

  • Assist in the validation of new analytical methods and contribute to process improvements.

  • Follow Labstat's safety, environmental, and quality management standards at all times.

  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to meet testing schedules and client deadlines.

  • Participate in routine audits, proficiency testing, and other quality assurance activities.

  • Support inventory management for laboratory supplies and reagent

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology, or related scientific discipline.

  • 1–3 years of hands-on laboratory experience preferred, ideally in a toxicology, analytical chemistry, or regulated testing environment.

  • Experience with chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques (GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, HPLC) strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with ISO 17025, GLP, or GMP quality systems is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and technical skills, with an ability to follow detailed methods precisely.

  • Excellent data documentation and organizational skills.

  • Understanding of sample traceability and data integrity principles.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and laboratory data systems (LIMS experience an asset).
