POSITION: Part-time Interpreter
DEPARTMENT: Programming & Special Events
REPORTS TO: Guest Experience Team Lead
HOURS: Part-time hours up to a maximum of 30 hours per week. Looking for candidates with good weekday availability. Hours include evenings as scheduled per THEMUSEUM regular hours and events.
Applicants will be asked to provide a current police check.
We are looking for highly motivated and energetic individuals to help augment THEMUSEUMs exhibitions and programs. Interpreters are the public face of THEMUSEUM. Through the delivery of various programs (public, camp, and education), Interpreters facilitate an educational, engaging and safe environment for guests to explore the exhibitions and participate in the programs and events that are offered. Interpreters assist at the front desk by operating admissions and bringing visitors into THEMUSEUM. Interpreters also assist in the Underground Studio Makerspace facilitating school programs and maker-based activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Engage visitors throughout the exhibitions to enhance their experience while visiting THEMUSEUM.
Manage floor traffic through the exhibitions while providing guidance to visitors as needed.
Provide supervision to exhibits, reporting any incidents on the floor.
Lead daily programming such as crafts and science activities for the public in a fun and engaging way.
Deliver curriculum-based education programs to school groups from kindergarten to Grade 12 and provide students with positive learning experiences. Programs include THEMUSEUMs permanent education programs, themed weeks, and the Underground Studio MakerSpace education programs.
Work independently maintaining the Underground Studio Makerspace and deliver hands-on demonstrations and workshops to the public. Facilitating an inclusive and respectful environment for all participants of workshops.
Deliver THEMUSEUMs camp programs for children between the ages of 5-14.
Facilitate Birthday Parties, running fun, educational, and memorable programming for guests.
Assist with THEMUSEUM events and rentals.
Operate POS at Guest Services and within THESTORE to process admissions and merchandise sales.
Customer service focused tasks such as answering phones, answering guest inquiries, discussing memberships with guests, and completing research/surveys.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old.
One year or more of teaching or camp experience (preferred).
Knowledge or skills in one or more of the following areas: Education, S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), History, Social Sciences, Museum Studies and/or Art.
Strong customer service, time management, leadership and communication skills.
Ability to provide accurate, enthusiastic, engaging and age-appropriate programming is a must.
Ability to be creative, patient, and multitask.
Passion for working with and educating children and adults in a fun and effective manner.
Experience working in a customer service environment, makerspace, museum, heritage or recreation setting.
Experience in program development is an asset.
Experience with Arduino, coding, sewing, screen printing, 3D printers and woodworking are an asset.
Preferred First Aid and CPR training/certificate.
Smart Serve designation considered an asset.
