NS28 of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $39.39 - $49.06 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Benefits;

About the Role
The Mental Health Liaison Nurse is a clinical position on the Mobile Crisis Response Teams (MCRT) and is part of a stepped-care approach to mental health and addictions services throughout the province. The MCRT is based on the Memphis Model which is a collaborative approach whereby police and mental health professionals, together, respond to mental health crises in the community. The incumbent will work closely with police agencies in the implementation and ongoing operations of the service. This position reports to the Mental Health & Addictions Program Manager responsible for the service.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Nursing program is required;
- Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
- Two years work experience in a multi-disciplinary mental health setting preferred;
- Advanced Studies in Mental Health Certificate OR Canadian Nursing Association Psychiatric Nursing Certificate, or willingness to obtain within one (1) year of appointment to position;
- Knowledge of professional mental health nursing practices; community mental health resources and psychiatric approaches; foundations of practice in mental health and addictions, including issues and impacts and theories, techniques and intervention;
- Effective crisis intervention, assessment, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, other professionals and community partners;
- The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check;
Duties: (Included but not limited to):
- Attend mental health crisis calls in the community, in collaboration with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, and provide assessment and clinical intervention competently and calmly to ensure a quality service;
- Provide walk-in clinic service to individuals who present to the department, Emergency Room, and Inpatient Services;
- Provide clinical services include screening, comprehensive assessments, treatment and intervention in the context of an interdisciplinary team; obtain collateral information from nursing/medical staff, family members, etc and coordinate with other disciplines and available community resources to provide follow-up care;
- Documentation of all patient contacts and outcomes is also required;
- May be required to work alone;
- Other related duties as required;
