The Recreation Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for planning,
organizing, and implementing innovative programs, activities, and self directed resources based
on established standards, policies, and procedures, which will enrich or maintain the lifestyle of
residents and promote the overall delivery of well-being.
Responsibilities:
● Recruitment/ retention and performance management of Programs team members and
volunteers
● Orientation and ongoing training and development of Programs team members and
volunteers
● Modeling of emotion-based person-centered care
● Knowledge of strong wellness domains in programs to meet resident's individual and
group needs.
● Skilled at taking the assessment information and developing a plan of care for each
resident.
● Demonstrates good knowledge of company policies, and appropriate legislation
● Adheres to human resources policies when recruiting and hiring new employees.
● Monitors payroll activities to ensure that wage grids, benefits, statutory holidays,
vacations, lieu days are applies as per the collective agreements
● Monitors performance of programs team members, students, volunteers
● Shows evidence of being focused on an individual's feelings and knows how to turn a
task into positive social interaction
● Ensures the Programs department is operating in compliance with the regulations within
all the applicable legislations and responds to any citation identified by the Ministry of
Health
● Develops and maintains departmental annual operating budget
● Ensures appropriate staffing patterns, effective utilization of team members and
materials management
● Focusing the team each day on merging clinical care, personal care and quality of life
● Assists in the coordination of the Quality Improvement program and follows the
Residents First Initiatives with HQO
● Assists with the evaluation of all resident programs and services for relevance, quality,
and effectiveness
● Participates in and implements learning which develops one's own emotional self
awareness and a person centred approach towards others
● Supports families, friends and supporters of people experiencing a dementia balancing
this with the promotion of a person centred approach to individuals
● Understands the nature and meaning of quality indicators
● Any and all other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
● Must have at least one year of experience in a health care setting or relevant field and,
● (i) a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies,
gerontology, kinesiology, therapeutic recreation, gerontology or other related field from
an Ontario post-secondary institution, or
● (ii) a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that, in
the reasonable opinion of the Page 2 of 5 Revised: April 11, 2023 licensee, is equivalent
to the diploma, degree or certificate described in subclause (i).
● Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, creativity and high motivation are a
must.
● Ability to have meaningful engagements with others
● Knowledge of community resources and program development is an asset.
● Knowledge of computers and associated applications are required.
● CPR and First Aid qualifications
● Presents a positive approach, not controlling language and actions towards people
● Ability to display awareness, and evidence on a daily basis of why feelings matter most
to individuals
● Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less
than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
● Experience in or a willing interest to engage with using music in care would be an asset.
