About the Company:
Our client is a well-established and growing residential real estate developer specializing in high-rise and mid-rise developments across the Greater Toronto Area. With a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, the organization is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Senior Project Accountant to join their in-office finance team in downtown Toronto.
Position Summary:
The Senior Project Accountant will play a key role in managing full-cycle project accounting across multiple active developments. This individual will be responsible for financial reporting, cost tracking, budget monitoring, and supporting the broader finance team and project managers with timely and accurate financial data. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage full-cycle project accounting for multiple residential development projects
Track and report on construction and soft costs, ensuring alignment with budgets and forecasts
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for internal stakeholders and external partners
Liaise with project managers, site staff, consultants, and vendors to ensure timely processing of invoices, change orders, and payments
Monitor project cash flow and support draw submissions to lenders
Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries as needed
Assist with year-end audit preparation and documentation
Maintain organized records for each project and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
Qualifications:
3-5 years of progressive experience in project accounting, ideally within residential or commercial real estate development or construction
Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and project cost control
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation (or in progress) is considered an asset
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, Newstar, Jonas, or similar) and MS Excel
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Must be comfortable working full-time in a professional, in-office setting in Toronto
