Do you understand dog behavior, have excellent judgement, and enjoy working with the public? Do you have your Bylaw Enforcement & Investigative Skills Level 1? If so, we want you on our Protective Services Team!

As the successful candidate as the Dog Control Officer I (Term), you will be responsible for carrying out the Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw enforcement duties throughout the Regional District of Central Okanagan. You will work independently and closely within a team, requiring confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgement.

You will:


  1. Promote public safety and provide education regarding the bylaw and investigation process.

  1. Investigate complaints, excluding major aggressive and/or dangerous dogs, covered under the RDCO Responsible Ownership Bylaw.

  1. Follow the RDCO bylaw, policies and procedures.

  1. Compose detailed, accurate and timely records subject to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPA) legislation.

  1. Represent RDCO in disputed Bylaw Notices in Adjudication hearings.

  1. Testify in civil court proceedings.

  1. Follow RDCO procedures in the safe impound, loading and transportation of dogs.

  1. Respond to calls of injured dogs under guidance of Chief Bylaw Enforcement Officer.

  1. Assist DCO II as requested.

  1. Assist Pound Keeper as required including but not limited to:
  • Laundry, kennel cleaning, attending to dog medical needs;
  • Reception duties, i.e., customer service, dog license sales, processing payments, reconciliation of transactions.

The ideal candidate for this role will have graduated from grade 12 and completed their Bylaw Enforcement & Investigative Skills Level 1 course. They will have valid First Aid Level 1, Dog First Aid, and a valid BC Drivers license. This position requires a satisfactory police information check.

This is a 2-month term CUPE 338 position until September 11th, 2025, with the possibility of extension. This position works 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on a rotation of 5 days on and 3 days off. This position pays a probationary rate of $31.74 per hour.
