As an IoT Systems Specialist, you will work closely with our IoT team in the development and deployment of advanced IoT solutions. Your role involves on-site coordination, integration, and commissioning of these systems, ensuring they are installed, configured, and tested to meet both design and performance standards. You will also be responsible for ongoing site maintenance, including inspections, software updates, and troubleshooting, to ensure system reliability and integrity. Quality control is a key aspect of this role, and you will be expected to provide regular reports and performance metrics to ensure compliance with design and operational standards. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Software Developers, IT Teams, Energy Engineers and Project Managers, including providing technical support and training to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed site audits to identify integration opportunities, assess existing infrastructure, and understand site conditions to assist in proposal development and design of effective solutions
  • Develop, commission, and maintain IoT platform, support configuration and troubleshooting of IoT networks, ensuring robust connectivity between IoT devices, BAS, Scada, Metering and other systems
  • Initialization and programming of dedicated IoT devices, gateways, energy meters
  • Assist with database framework deployment and data acquisition of existing BAS and/or Scada systems following standardized solutions
  • Support design and implementation of solutions for blackPAC DERMS and energy management systems, ensuring code compliance, quality of service, data integrity and security
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of standards-based solution engineering
  • Product research & development, testing of new technology, verify integration protocols (LoRaWAN, MQTT, BACnet) and other devices for energy data collection, control and monitoring
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, ensuring continuous data flow between system components, field devices, and back-end applications
  • Work closely with the team to modernize and update client infrastructure, integrating IoT solutions and supporting automation efforts for better operational control
  • Collaborate on the development of user-friendly graphical interfaces and dashboards to visualize real-time data from energy management systems.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project delivery and integration.
  • Follow all company safety procedures when performing work on or offsite
  • Participate in yearly performance reviews, team huddles, standup meetings and 1:1s

Qualifications

  • Education: Degree or Diploma, Industrial Automation, SCADA, Mechatronics, Instrumentation
  • Experience: 1-4 Years experience as a BAS, IoT, Industrial Technician or Software Developer
  • Networking Fundamentals: Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including IT cybersecurity, VLAN, Routing, BAS, SCADA, wireless communication in IoT systems
  • Programming Skills: Applied experience in languages such as React, JavaScript, Python, HTML,
  • Network protocol: Experienced in (BACnet, MQQT, REST, Modbus TCP, OPC, IoT, IIOT, MSI or BAS)
  • Programming: Proficiency in BAS, Scada or PLC programming including systems integration
  • Troubleshooting: A natural hands on troubleshooting of connectivity issues, experience using multimeters, network diagnostic tools, and a field technicians toolset
  • IoT Frameworks: Experienced in Tridium Vykon, FIN Framework, or similar BAS & IoT platforms
  • CAD/Visio: Experience with CAD or Visio is an asset
  • Standards Knowledge: Knowledge of HVAC Systems, ASHRAE standards, local building codes
  • UI Development: Creative and experienced in developing user interfaces for data visualization and energy performance monitoring
  • Location and Travel: This role is primarily field based with sites in Durham Region, Greater Toronto Area and Southwestern Ontario. Occasional travel required for remote sites in Northern Ontario
