Faculty in the School of Community Studies are responsible for providing instruction to learners, evaluating learner progress, designing and developing curriculum and instructional materials, and supporting learners in meeting the learning outcomes of their courses and programs.

The Social Work Diploma program is currently looking to fill a casual faculty position. Candidates should have extensive experience in the social work field, be committed to effective teaching, and demonstrate the ability to teach courses within the field of social work in a broad range of settings. Candidates will also teach in other School of Community Studies programs and general human services courses.

We are hiring for vacancies in both the Okotoks and Calgary campuses.

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:

Provides Quality Instruction in Courses as Assigned

  • Instructs courses as assigned.
  • Selects instructional strategies to meet learner needs.
  • Creates lesson plans.
  • Develops and update curriculum, manuals and guides as requested by Program Chair. Specifically focusing on the indigenization of the Social Work curriculum.
  • Evaluates learner performance on an ongoing basis and provides learners and administrators with learner progress reports.
  • Maintains officials records as required.

Provides a Positive Learning Experience for Students

  • Meets with learners regarding any academic issues (for example: attendance, classroom conduct, performance).
  • Identifies areas of concern and refer to the Program Chair if follow up is necessary.
  • Refers learners to other institutional supports as required (for example: tutoring, counseling).
  • Ensures that learner accommodations are met.
  • Supports the program in selecting recipients for scholarships and bursaries.
  • Participates in college and departmental events that promote learner success (for example: orientation, graduation).

Builds and Maintain Relationships with Internal and External Stakeholders and Promote the Department and the College

  • Keeps current regarding changes in industry and updates and adapts curriculum as required
  • Assist with articulation and transfer activity as required.
  • Meet with industry stakeholders and sits on Advisory Committee as required.
  • Attends external community meetings.
  • Participates in recruitment events.
  • Maintains a networking relationship with employers of government agencies.
  • Nurtures collaborative alliances and partnerships that benefit their department and learner practicum opportunities.
  • Develops and directs new articulations and partnerships for learner practicum experiences.
  • Appreciates how diverse perspectives can benefit their faculty/department.

Other Duties/Special Projects

  • Follow College Policies and procedures.
  • Complete any professional development requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in applied research.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Social Work.
  • 4 years experience.
  • Police information check including vulnerable sector.
  • Registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience with practicum students and/or staff preferred.
  • Ability to work to full scope of practice.
  • Teaching experience is an asset.
  • Curriculum development experience an asset.
  • Field experience an asset.
  • Industry relationships an asset.

This is a casual, Faculty position.
