Position Summary

Instructors in the School of Foundational Learning are responsible for providing instruction to students; evaluating student progress, designing and developing curriculum and instructional materials, and supporting students in meeting the learning outcomes of their courses and programs. The Instructor - EAP (English for Academic Purposes) must be committed to effective teaching and demonstrate the ability to teach courses within the field of English Language Instruction in a broad range of settings. This includes but is not limited to teaching face-to-face; online; in blended delivery settings; and in the workplace. Instructors must be prepared to teach at all levels of the language learning continuum. Levels range from literacy ELL to specialized ELL training that includes post-secondary preparation; effective intercultural competence; and workforce integration.

This position reports to the Associate Dean, School of Foundational Learning

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Provides Quality InstructioninCourses as Assigned

  • Instructs courses as assigned.

  • Develops and delivers educational content in face-to-face, online, and blended learning environments.
  • Prepares and updates course syllabus/outline and content.
  • Creates lesson plans and course schedule.
  • Develops and updates curriculum, manuals and guides as requested byProgram Chair.
  • Evaluates learner performance on an ongoing basis and provides learners and administrators with learner progress reports.
  • Develops suitable assessment criteria.
  • Maintains officials records as required.
  • Facilitates learning within avariety of settings.

ProvidesaPositive Educational Learning Experience

  • Meets with learners regarding any academic issues (for example: attendance; conduct, performance).
  • Identifies areas of concern and refer to the Program Chair if follow up is necessary.
  • Refers learners to other institutional supports as required (for example: tutoring, counseling).
  • Ensures that any special student accommodations are met (for example: reduced course load, vision impairments, hearing impairments, testing).
  • Supports the program in awarding of scholarships and bursaries.

  • Participates in college and departmental events that promote learner success (for example: orientation, graduation).

Builds and Maintains Relationship with Internal and External Stakeholders and promote the Department and the College

  • Keeps current regarding changes in best practice and adapts curriculum as required.
  • Assists with articulation and transfer activity for learners as required.
  • Meets with industry stakeholders and sit on Advisory Committees as required.
  • Attends external community meetings.
  • Participates in recruitment events as schedule permits.

Other Duties /Special Projects

  • Follows College Policies and Procedures.
  • Completes professional development requirements (Respectful Workplace Policy, Cybersecurity, Brightspace/D2L, Agresso, MS Teams, FOIP).
  • Ability and willingness to participate in applied research
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on projects, when applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree with Languages Canada approved TESL certification
  • 3 years instructional experience teaching adults
  • ELL teaching experience
  • Highly organized
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered
  • If your education was received internationally we will require you provide an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations upon hire
