POSITION SUMMARY

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing purchasing activities to ensure timely and accurate planning of material requirements for production, targeting 100% parts availability. The successful candidate will represent the Purchasing Department in cross-functional meetings and lead the execution of the Supplier Performance Measurement Program, driving continuous improvement in on-time delivery and supplier quality.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Create and maintain mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Hire, train, manage, and assign direct work; complete performance appraisals; coach and mentor the Supply Management team towards achieving established goals.
  • Assure an effective and stable supply base that meets established goals and strategies that optimize operational stability through improved material planning methods and systems.
  • Manage key Quality and Delivery performance metrics and benchmarks that support established goals.
  • Manage and optimize supplier performance in achieving continuous improvement in delivery and quality performance within the Supplier Performance Measurement Program.
  • Manage the systems and tools needed for material planning and execution, support improvements.
  • Ensure material requirements are appropriately planned to support the Master Production Schedule.
  • Communicate product requirements to suppliers to ensure supply continuity.
  • Coordinate all activities with the Strategic Sourcing team to assure an effective and stable supply base that meets current and future material needs.
  • Ensure pricing control and data accuracy within Oracle at the item level to facilitate accurate information for contract bidding and financial reporting purposes.
  • Effective liaison with Production, Engineering, Quality, Program Management and Sales & Marketing in support of the master scheduling plan requirements and related build schedule; resolve material supply issues that arise in Production due to supplier nonperformance.
  • Support and liaise with Customer Service Parts as necessary to support aftermarket sales initiatives.
  • Support and liaise with Customer Service in resolving field acceptance and/or warranty issues due to supplier nonperformance.

Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Post-secondary education; completion of Continuing Education programs such as PMAC or APICS
  • 3 to 5 years of experience managing a Supply team and an international supply chain in a high volume, dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Have an extensive knowledge of MRP systems
  • Able to provide leadership in a dynamic and time sensitive work environment
  • Management skills with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solver with strong analytical and computer skills
  • Sense of urgency with hands on approach
