akisqnuk First Nation (AFN) isa member Community of theKtunaxa Nation. AFNexists for the Community. We are looking for on-call Community Drivers. Reporting to the Clinical Lead, this role is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation to and from appointments to community members who are unable to provide their own transportation.
Note: This position is on-call casual with no weekly guarantee of hours. The hourly pay rate is $22.50.
The primary responsibilities include:
Provide transportation services to community members, including elders, youth, and those in need of assistance.
Safely operate and maintain community vehicles, such as vans, buses, or other vehicles.
Respond to and confirm requests for rides.
Update and maintain ride schedules.
Follow designated routes and schedules for transporting individuals to appointments.
Assist elders and others with mobility issues getting in and out of the vehicle.
Store walkers and other mobility tools safely.
Ensure the safety of passengers during transportation by adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
Regularly inspect and maintain vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
Clean vehicles after each use, ensuring all garbage is properly disposed of.
Maintain a full tank of gas after each trip.
Document and attend to routine maintenance and safety checks of the vehicles.
Report in writing all accidents/incidents which occur while on duty.
Ensure vehicles are used only for authorized business.
Maintain clear and effective communication with passengers, fellow staff members, and the community to ensure efficient and reliable transportation services.
Ensure that the Health Center is aware of where passengers are being transported to.
Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including providing first aid, if needed and coordinating with emergency services.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid drivers license if not in possession of a Class 2, must be willing and able to pass the Class 2 road test
Must provide a clean Drivers Abstract
First Aid certificate is an asset (if not trained in First Aid, must be willing to take the training)
Experience working with First Nations / Indigenous communities
Knowledge of language, history and culture of the akisqnuk band is an asset
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent attention to detail when reviewing schedules and reading maps
Strong customer services skills when working with community members
