Position Overview
As a Product Development Designer, you will play a key role in designing and developing component parts and assemblies across the entire product line. You'll collaborate closely with the Product Development Manager and engineering team to drive innovation and continuous improvement in the fabric building industry.
This role involves hands-on design work, prototyping, market research, and producing detailed manufacturing drawings that meet both performance and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design new components and assemblies; produce detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings.
Assist in the development of prototypes and testing procedures.
Conduct market and product research to support design decisions.
Collaborate with internal engineering, manufacturing, and installation teams to determine product requirements.
Support the resolution of production and field challenges through thoughtful design changes.
Implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and revisions to existing product designs.
Lead and participate in design review meetings and cross-functional project discussions.
Ensure compliance with company drawing standards, welding symbols, and fabrication procedures.
Contribute to engineering analyses and documentation, including supporting calculations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of product design experience, preferably focused on new product development.
Proficient in SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
Strong understanding of part design, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements.
Familiarity with machining, welding, and fabrication processes.
Experience working in a manufacturing environment and designing for manufacturability (DFM).
Practical knowledge of drafting standards, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
Experience with FEA simulation tools (SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS) is an asset.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
Post-secondary education in engineering design, drafting, or a related technical field—or equivalent work experience.
