Are you organized, dependable, and ready to roll up your sleeves? The City of Medicine Hat has a great opportunity to work in a dynamic warehouse setting while supporting the essential services that keep our city running smoothly. We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Storekeeper. This unionized position is responsible for a variety of shipping, receiving, and inventory control duties essential to the efficient operation of City Stores. You will work closely with staff from all City Departments, suppliers, transportation and delivery personnel. Your key responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, shelf, issue, and distribute stock using a computerized inventory control system.
  • Perform routine and periodic inventory and cycle counts to ensure accurate stock levels.
  • Pick up, prepare, and deliver supplies to various City departments.
  • Maintain the warehouse, office, and yard in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Use various equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hand tools and office equipment.

What you bring

  • Strong working knowledge of inventory management and purchasing practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while ensuring high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and adaptability to ERP and other digital systems.
  • Commitment to safe work practices in line with OH&S legislation and the City's HSE Management System.
  • Physical capability to perform manual tasks and operate equipment safely.
  • Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and a high standard of ethical conduct.
  • Familiarity with WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of work experience, preferably in a Stores or warehouse environment.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
