The Family Champions Facilitator provides evidence-based, trauma informed workshops supporting the development of caregiver skills and capacity. Through interactive workshops, this role provide opportunities for caregivers of children ages 0 – 17 to build their knowledge around various topics, including attachment, child development, and challenging behaviours. This position involves building community, both within our City Centre Family Resource Network and the greater Calgary area. This may include offering programming in the community or attending community events to promote programming.

This hybrid position requires 37.5 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends, and involves working with children aged 0–17, which may include physical activity such as bending, lifting, and engaging at their level. Candidates must be able to travel throughout Calgary and work in an open-concept office environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Provide evidence based, trauma informed and interactive workshops to caregivers, both in person, virtual, and hybrid.
  • Research and create sessions based on the needs of the community; deliver information in a way that is accessible to diverse populations.
  • Provide opportunities for family engagement and skill building through interactive activities for children ages 0 to 17.
  • Build rapport and positive relationships with children and families and model meaningful engagement.
  • Support with feedback and survey distribution and collection to evaluate program success and impact.
  • Create and distribute monthly internal and external calendars of programming and events.
  • Capture attendance for all sessions; enter informal series and closed group information in our database; track external event participation.
  • Manage Family Champions emails which include registrations, questions, and feedback from caregivers.
  • Coordinate intake meetings and ensure families learn about and understand all programs offered by the FRN and YW Calgary as applicable.
  • Create and design promotional material; collaborate with our Communications and Marketing teams to increase engagement and participation in programs and events.
  • Maintain professional standing with regulatory body (if applicable) as well as required or relevant training including First Aid/CPR and NVCI.
  • Conduct industry research and ensure information is relevant and current for up-and-coming presentations and workshops.
  • Participate in the larger YW community and engage inertial and external opportunities to support professional development goals.
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary's success.
  • Understand YW Calgary's Health, Safety and Wellness (HS&W) policies, practices and protocols; ensure work is performed safely and in alignment with YW's HS&W culture.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, and/or a related field.
  • Functional knowledge, including subject matter expertise in child and youth development.
  • Knowledge of local service agencies, systems navigation, and referral processes.
  • Understanding of trauma informed, strength-based, and evidence-based practices, and how to apply theory in practice.
  • Creative approach in developing and providing sessions for caregivers and children.
  • Strong facilitation skills, both in-person and virtually.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly with new and existing participants; exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable; open to constructive feedback; works collaboratively with a diverse team; able to support team cohesion and development.
  • Demonstrates a client centered approach; ability to balance the needs of clients with organizational polices and protocols.
  • Strong assessment and decision-making skills; ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to obstacles or challenges.
  • Self-awareness, empathy, and cultural competence; incorporates intersectional feminist practices into work.
  • Highly organized and exceptional time management skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and follow-through; the ability to establish, prioritize and balance competing demands.
  • Intermediate technical/computer skills; experience using Microsoft 360 applications and ability to learn new software.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
