COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WORKER
Full Time Contract (12 Month Contract)
South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre is a community health centre, offering a variety of health and social services to residents living in the South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre catchment area. We require a bilingual (French/English) Community Engagement Worker to work with our Community and Social Services team.
JOB SUMMARY
The Community Engagement Worker (CEW) will support community initiatives in South-East Ottawa, particularly in the Hunt Club Riverside area. Working collaboratively with community members, groups, and agencies, the CEW will enhance community capacity, provide outreach and practical support, and helps build local support networks.
POSITION REQUIREMENT
- Education: Undergraduate degree in Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with background in needs assessment, group facilitation, conflict resolution, crisis management, and program planning.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a community-based setting, with knowledge of multicultural communities, poverty issues, community resources, and local neighborhoods (SEOCHC, Riverside, Hunt Club).
- Skills: Strong community engagement, problem-solving, conflict resolution, program evaluation, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary settings and effectively respond to community needs. Proficiency in computer applications.
- Personal Suitability: Flexible schedule availability (evenings and weekends), sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills, valid drivers license with insurance (vehicle preferred), and clear criminal record check.
- Language Requirements: English (Advanced), French (Intermediate), other languages (Somali, Arabic, Spanish) are an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Community Engagement: Collaborates with the SEOCHC Community Developer, NCLB Steering Committee, Community Services team, and partner agencies to address community needs.
- Program Development & Evaluation: Designs, implements, monitors, and evaluates strategies and programs to meet community needs and support local initiatives.
- Community Planning & Support: Participates in community-wide planning, identifies potential conflicts, and assists in conflict resolution.
- Leadership & Advocacy Training: Provides group education and training to foster leadership and advocacy skills within the community.
- Administrative Duties: Contributes to data collection, analysis, and reporting; maintains confidentiality; submits records promptly; and ensures professional development.
- Organizational Support: Promotes diversity, supports student placements and volunteer programs, and participates in strategic planning, team meetings, and policy development.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Adheres to health and safety policies, promotes a secure work environment, and participates in required safety training.
- Team Collaboration & Development: Engages in interdisciplinary teamwork, supports colleagues, and actively participates in professional development opportunities.
SALARY RANGE: $53,435.20 to $62,881 per year depending on experience
