This summer student opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Family Centre

How You Will Make an Impact

Child & Youth Worker Summer Student will support children, youth, and families staying in the emergency shelter overflow hotel program for families. The Child & Youth Worker Summer Student will support the program's Child and Youth Worker to develop, co-ordinate, and implement programs for parents and children residing at the hotel. Tasks will include child minding, program development, summer activities, referrals, documentation, and meeting with children and youth to help them achieve their goals.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Post-secondary education or interest in Child and Youth Care or a related field is an asset.
  • Work takes place in the community and in the office. Must be willing and able to assist in a hands-on capacity with Child and Youth care plans.
  • The preferred candidate for this position will have demonstrated knowledge in the areas of parenting, child development and child.
  • Time management skills are necessary in a high energy, changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Must be comfortable working with children of all ages.
  • Have excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification, as well as a valid driver's license, are considered assets.

Hiring Criteria - the following criteria is established by Canada Summer Job:

This temporary full-time position is funded by Service Canada for youth between the ages of 15 to 30 years of age.

  • Applicants may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as they were 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • As per the Summer Canada Jobs Program criteria:
    • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
    • Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
