Weekend Am - 8:00 am - 2:00 pm, Weekend PM - 4:00 pm - 10:00pm

Description:

As a floating Youth Care Worker in SCP's transitional housing program your primary role is to provide trauma informed, strength based, relationship focused, and youth centred support to the residents of SCP's youth shelter (short term transitional housing) and peer homes (long term transitional housing) when regularly scheduled staff are not available. You will act as support in a front line capacity and will be responsible for youth engagement, crisis response, medication administration, youth supervision, youth advocacy, and community engagement. Before the end of your shift you are responsible for documenting all pertinent information and communicating pressing concerns.

Floating Youth Care Workers are expected to comply with industry standards and best practices while adhering to all SCP mandated approaches in the completion of their duties and fulfillment of their role. You may be scheduled at any Transitional Housing location as the need arises or may bounce between locations in a given shift.

Qualifications (Education & Experience)

• Secondary completion required (High school diploma or equivalent)
• Front line youth care experience preferred
• Preference will be given to applicants with
  • Experience working with Indigenous populations
  • Experience working with community resources
  • Experience supporting youth with exceptionalities, gang involvement, intergenerational trauma/PTSD/CPTSD, experiencing current/previous exploitation, & managing substance use and/or mental health concerns.

• Valid Drivers License with Driver's Abstract
• Criminal record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
• Cultural Humiliation Required
• Strong communication skills & precise documentation
• Strongly developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence
• Well developed time management, organizational skills, & attention to detail
• Preference will be given to applicants with CPR/First-Aid (B), Conflict Resolution, Crisis Intervention (DPVS), ASIST (Suicide Intervention), Mental Health First Aid & Water Safety

Duties & Responsibilities (Outcomes to be monitored quarterly)

Youth Advocacy & Support (specific duties may be location dependent)

• Youth engagement (NHA, trauma informed, strength based)
• Help with chores
• Support life skill development
• Meet the day to day needs of SCP youth
• Peer-home/shelter duties (grocery shopping, laundry, cooking, chores/cleanliness, update communication board, vehicle refuelling & cleaning, refilling bus passes, etc.)
• Transport/accompany to resident appointments as required
• Communicate with Case Plan Coordinator and team around ongoing youth issues
• Medication administration and documentation
• Assisting with programming
• Crisis response and de-escalation
• Mediate conflict between youth

Case Management (specific duties may be location dependent)

• Update Case Management documents, case notes, journals, com logs
• Incident and disclosure reports as required
• Risk Assessments and safety plans as required

Program Development & Administration (All locations)

• Attend regular staff meetings
• Review all pertinent information and communications (incident reports, communications logs, case notes, journals, announcements, emails etc.)
• Maintain a working knowledge of current Agency policies, procedures, guidelines, and emergency protocols
