The General Service Employee plays a pivotal role within the Event Delivery team. This individual is entrusted with ensuring the seamless set-up and execution of a diverse range of year-round events. These events encompass internal gatherings, special occasions, trade shows, consumer exhibitions, conventions, sports events, concerts, and an array of other captivating attractions.
Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Event Delivery, the General Service Employee is responsible for the following:
General Responsibilities
- Execute a wide range of year-round events including internal and special events, trade shows, consumer shows, conventions, sporting events, concerts, and attractions based on Banquet Event Order (BEO).
- Collaborate with Supervisors, Client Services, and Managers to address client requests, negotiate solutions, and maintain high service standards.
- Ensure cleanliness of event areas, washrooms, and public spaces before, during, and after events.
- Set up and dismantle events in various locations, including rooms, pavilions, and outdoor areas.
- Manage agricultural event logistics such as setting up steel panels, horse stalling panels, and ground grooming equipment operation.
- Work harmoniously with staff, suppliers, contractors, and volunteers to meet guest needs.
- Perform facility openings and closures according to daily requirements and instructions.
- Maintain show requirements, including temperature control, lighting, and garbage removal.
- Undertake minor maintenance tasks like painting, wall repairs, furniture fixing, and light carpet cleaning.
- Operate various machinery, tools, and equipment including but not limited to hand tools, forklifts, skid steers, tractors, floor scrubbers.
- Regularly inspect and report concerns about tools, equipment, and machinery maintenance.
- Perform equipment checks, walk-arounds, and minor maintenance pre and post operation.
- Ensure sidewalks and parking lots are well-maintained through snow removal, salt spreading, sweeping, and garbage collection.
- Care for lawns by mowing, mulching, aerating, weeding, and edging.
- Participate in planting and upkeep of plants, including annuals, perennials, shrubs, and gardens.
- Maintain planters, memorial benches, Harvest Gardens, and the park area.
- May be required to assist with arborist duties based on ability and training.

- Ability to work shifts, which include weekends and evenings. Can include starting times as early as 6am to as late as 2:30 am.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License, with a minimum of 3 years driving history.
- First Aid training.
- 1-2 years experience in event set up preferred.
- 1-2 years experience in a labour role required.
- 1–2 years of experience in equipment operation, such as skid steer, forklift, tractor, etc., is an asset.
- Able to use computers to access email and documents as required.
