Job Summary:
Principle Projects Ltd. is seeking skilled and safety-conscious Journeyman Carpenters to join our team. You will be responsible for reading blueprints and diagrams to accurately fabricate, erect, and dismantle concrete forms for various industrial construction projects. This role involves performing tasks requiring physical labor, operating hand and power tools, and ensuring work meets high standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams to determine form dimensions and designs.
- Select, measure, cut, and assemble lumber and other materials for formwork fabrication.
- Erect and set concrete forms, bracing, and shoring.
- Assist with placing and tying rebar, including potential cutting and bending.
- Place and secure styrofoam, void forms, anchor bolts, and embeds.
- Assist with concrete placement, consolidation, and finishing processes.
- Strip and clean forms after concrete curing.
- Perform general site duties including cleanup, housekeeping, excavations, material handling, and tool maintenance.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, plate tampers, jackhammers, and assist with grout applications or concrete cutting as needed.
- Actively participate in safety meetings (toolbox talks, hazard assessments) and adhere to all safety procedures and site requirements.
- Ensure quality workmanship, checking for level, plumb, and square.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Valid Journeyman Carpenter Certification (Red Seal preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
- Proficient mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
- Strong understanding of concrete formwork techniques and construction principles.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and equipment common to concrete construction.
- Good physical condition: ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform strenuous labor, and work in various field conditions.
- Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Required Certification:
- Journeyman Carpenter Certification
- Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) or equivalent orientation (e.g., CSO)
- Additional certifications considered strong assets or potentially required depending on site:
- Standard First Aid
- WHMIS 2015
- Ground Disturbance Level II
- Fall Protection
- Aerial Work Platform (AWP)
- Confined Space Entry & Monitor
- H2S Alive
Work Conditions:
- Standard work week is typically 44 hours, but schedules may vary by project (e.g., compressed work weeks like 4x10s). Overtime paid after applicable weekly hours as per Alberta Employment Standards.
- Physically demanding role requiring climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), kneeling, balancing, walking, stooping, crouching, crawling, and reaching.
- Work occurs outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Accommodations may be provided (e.g., camp lodging, hotel, or RV with food allowance depending on site).
- Must be able to meet all client site access requirements.
