The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Vancouver Island is looking for an energetic and motivatedCommunity & Social Services Support Worker to join our Social Concern Office Team.
The Social Concern Office is a high-volume food pantry and emergency resource center. This full-time (35 hours per week), 8-week position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) wage subsidy program and is ideal for students currently studying Human Services. The role involves actively engaging with clients and collaborating with the team to provide support and ensure effective service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct assistance to clients by facilitating access to our food pantry and addressing their immediate needs.
- Connect clients with appropriate resources and services.
- Monitor phones and respond to client inquiries.
- Work alongside staff and volunteers to enhance service delivery.
- Receive, count, and organize food products on a daily basis.
- Accurately enter and maintain client information in our database.
- Sort and bag produce and bread.
- Maintain cleanliness by following established cleaning protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must meet the criteria for a Canada Summer Jobs position for youth between the ages of 15-30.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and one of the following:
- Canadian Citizens or Permanent Resident
- A person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong interest or experience working with vulnerable populations
- A team player, with the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
Additional Requirements:
- A Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring.
