Headquartered in Calgary, Honens is Canada's international piano competition. The triennial event is among the most prestigious of its kind, awarding Gold, Silver, and Bronze Laureates significant cash prizes and a comprehensive three-year artistic development and career accelerator program. Honens identifies and supports extraordinary young artists and fosters global appreciation for piano music. Beyond the Competition, the annual Honens Festival and year-round education and community initiatives bring world-class music to Calgary and beyond—accessible, enriching, and engaging experiences for all. The Box Office & Engagement Coordinator is a full-time, six-month, in-person contract position that supports the Honens team across volunteers, box office, and administrative functions. This role is ideal for someone eager to build a career in the cultural sector and contributes to Honens' values of excellence, creativity, integrity, and engagement. Responsibilities Box Office * Manages ticketing for the 2025 Honens Festival and 2025 Honens International Piano Competition. * Coordinates merchandise sales and maintains inventory. * Ensures excellent customer service as the first point of contact for patrons. * Monitors and updates box office and ticketing information within Honens' CRM (Spektrix), with support from the Marketing Manager. * Accurately handles cash and credit transactions, prepares end-of-day reconciliations, and compiles sales reports in collaboration with the Controller & Administration Manager. * Ensures accurate ticketing information, seating capacities, and event setup in collaboration with the full Honens Team. * Maintains office supplies and equipment. Volunteers * Executes annual plan for volunteer requirements. * Coordinates and leads the Honens volunteer force of approximately 100 volunteers, with assistance from two support staff members and Volunteer Co-Chairs. * Directs the work of the Volunteer Co-Chairs and specific Committee Chair(s). * Maintains good relationships with volunteers ensuring they are assigned, nurtured, and rewarded appropriately. * Champions the use of the Better Impact software, including encouraging and assisting volunteers who need help. * Solicits new volunteers, with assistance from Volunteer Co-Chairs. * Runs volunteer orientation and training sessions. Social Media * Works with the Marketing and Communications Managers to implement the social media strategy and content calendar. * Develops and publishes creative content for social media platforms. * Analyzes social media trends to inform future strategy and optimize engagement. Administration * Responds to audience inquiries by phone, email, and in person. * Supports the full Honens Team with administrative tasks as needed. * Performs other duties as required. Qualifications * A university degree, college diploma, or equivalent experience. * Basic understanding of event ticketing; experience with Spektrix or similar CRM an asset. * Proficient in Microsoft Office in an Apple environment. * Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. * Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). * Ability to manage multiple projects and take initiative. * Knowledge and interest in the performing arts and/or classical music is an asset. * Team-oriented, with a commitment to excellence and collaboration. * Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the Festival and Competition.
