JOB SUMMARY:
As a member of CVIMS Community Engagement team, the EDI Specialist will lead initiatives that promote inclusivity, anti-racism, and cultural awareness and competency within our community. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice, excellent organizational skills, and a creative approach to fostering a sense of belonging among diverse community members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement community-focused EDI strategies to support inclusivity and promoteanti-racism initiatives.
- Organize and coordinate cultural activities, events, and programs that celebrate the diversity of the community.
- Collaborate with local organizations, leaders, and community members to assess needs and co-create impactful EDI initiatives.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions to raise awareness about anti-racism, cultural competence, and equity in the community.
- Establish partnerships with businesses, and cultural organizations to support a collaborative approach to community EDI efforts.
- Advocate for policies and practices that promote equity and inclusivity within community institutions, including but not limited to: people with diverse SOGIESC, Indigenous Peoples, people of colour, and other marginalized groups.
- Act as a resource for community members, providing support and guidance on EDI-related matters.
- Collaborate with local media to amplify EDI initiatives and showcase the richness of diversity within the community.
- Regularly assess the impact of EDI programs and activities, adjusting strategies based on community feedback and evolving needs.
- Support the Community Engagement team with any other activities and tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent community-based work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in community organizing, with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Strong understanding of anti-racism principles and cultural competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse community members.
- Proven ability to plan and execute events, workshops, and programs that foster community connection.
- Familiarity with local community dynamics, challenges, and opportunities related to EDI.
- Collaborative and inclusive approach to working with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
- Passion for social justice and creating positive change within the community.
- Ability to navigate complex community issues and build consensus among relevant parties.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and adaptation to best serve the evolving needs of the community.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Travel to community locations within RDN will be required. Occasional travel to locations in other parts of British Columbia and/or Canada for purposes of professional development, networking, or conferences may also be required.
- Some work outside of regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required. Flex time schedules will be made to accommodate non-regular work hours.
- CVIMS compensates overtime hours with time in lieu.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
