The work of Good Shepherd is based on a fundamental belief in providing hope and restoring dignity to the most vulnerable members of our community. Our services include emergency food transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs. We are committed to integrating Harm Reduction practices into our programs and to prioritizing the rights, dignity, and choices of those who use substances. By integrating a Harm Reduction framework at Good Shepherd, we can decrease barriers to service and better support some of our community's most marginalized members.

How You Will Make an Impact

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Community Development Worker will help enhance the dignity and quality of life of our clients, visitors and co-workers by providing efficient, courteous and quality services. This position will provide support in project management, research and administration in areas including but not limited to coordination of social media, staff and committee meetings, preparation of documents such as letters, filing, data entry, agenda's and meeting minutes. In addition, support will be provided to community events and the Lived Experience Committee.

• Post-secondary education in social services, personal care, and/or life skills
• Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Availability, Flexibility, Adaptability, Hospitality and Dignity
• CPR/First Aid certification and WHMIS training
• Demonstrated ability to adapt in a changing work environment
• Creativity and flexibility in achieving desired outcomes
• Hospitable in dealings with clients / public / volunteers / staff, and other key stakeholders
• Available and responsive to the needs of other.
• Respectful, patient and compassionate demeanor
• Works well in a team setting and independently
• Must provide a valid current Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Excellent communication, team-building, negotiating and problem-solving skill

Hiring Criteria - the following criteria is established by Canada Summer Job:

This temporary full-time position is funded by Service Canada for youth between the ages of 15 to 30 years of age.

• Applicants may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as they were 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
• As per the Summer Canada Jobs Program criteria:
  • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
  • Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
