Title: Youth Care Worker

Reports to: Staffing Coordinators

Based at: SCP Peer Homes & Youth Shelter

Employment: Full Time

Pay Range: $16-20

Hours: 35+ hours/week, flexibility in scheduling required, 3-month probation and review

Supporting Contracts: Ministry of Social Services

Description:

As a Youth Care Worker in SCP's long term transitional housing program you will support the day to day operations of a peer home that houses 5 youth between the ages of 16-21. You will be responsible for youth engagement, crisis response, medication administration, executing case management plans, assisting with program delivery, youth advocacy and community engagement. Youth Care Workers are expected to comply with industry standards and best practices while adhering all SCP mandated approaches.

Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Secondary completion required (High school diploma or equivalent)
  • Front line youth care experience preferred
  • Preference will be given to applicants with
    • Experience working with Indigenous populations
    • Experience working with community resources
    • Experience supporting youth with exceptionalities, gang involvement, intergenerational trauma/PTSD/CPTSD, experiencing current/previous exploitation, & managing substance use and/or mental health concerns

Requirements (Skills & Competencies)

  • Valid Driver's License with Driver's Abstract
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
  • Cultural awareness required
  • Strong communication skills & precise documentation
  • Strongly developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence
  • Well developed time management, organizational skills, & attention to detail
  • Preference will be given to applicants with CPR/First-Aid (B), Conflict Resolution, Crisis Intervention (DPVS), ASIST (Suicide Intervention), Mental Health First Aid & Water Safety

Duties & Responsibilities (Outcomes to be monitored quarterly)

Youth Advocacy & Support Requirements

  • Youth engagement, 1-on-1's, help with chores, take youth shopping, teach life skills, meet the day to day needs of SCP youth
  • House duties, grocery shopping, house laundry, cooking, house chores/cleanliness, update communication board, vehicle refuelling & cleaning, refilling bus passes
  • Schedule and document resident appointments (health, justice, education, etc.)
  • Transportation/accompaniment to resident appointments as required
  • Communicate with Case Plan Coordinator and team around ongoing resident issues
  • Medication administration and handling
  • Assisting with programming

Case Management Requirements

  • Assist with implementing case plans for all residents
  • Assist with quarterly completion of case conferences, action plans, eco maps, & CAFAS
  • Update Case Management documents, case notes, journals, com logs
  • Incident and disclosure reports as required
  • Communication with External Supports (MSS, Probation, Child & Youth, etc)

Program Development & Administration Requirements

  • Attend regular staff meetings
  • Review all pertinent information and communications (incident reports, communications logs, case notes, journals, announcements, emails etc.)
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current Agency policies, procedures, guidelines, and emergency protocols
  • Establish rapport and liaise with representatives of MSS including social workers and management
