Our client is seeking Process Engineers to join their Process Engineering Team located at their Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. Reporting to a Process Engineering Team Leader, you will provide process engineering support in achieving Olefins and/or Polyolefins and/or Utilities business results. You will be part of a Multidisciplinary Team and work with various disciplines (Technical, Operations, and Maintenance) to address unit priorities. You will work on key process engineering and process safety work that also develops competency and builds knowledge and networks within our Manufacturing environment. What you will be doing:
  • Identify and own threats to process operation (Responsible Care and financial) while leading multidisciplinary teams to identify the root causes via data analysis, troubleshooting and sound engineering principles and implement operational changes or projects to mitigate them.
  • Identify and own business improvement opportunities and execute engineering projects or process operation experiments to achieve the specified benefits.
  • Prepare alternative evaluation reports with proposed process designs to solve identified problems, business cases for each alternative and recommend minimum technical solution for both expense and capital projects.
  • Generate process design engineering deliverables as part of a multi-disciplinary team for capital and expense projects through the front-end loading and detailed design stages of projects.
  • Participate in capital and expense project field turnover steps such as: construction inspections, commissioning and pre-start-up safety reviews.
  • Manage single and multi-disciplinary expense projects using the company's Project Development and Implementation and Facility Change Management Processes.
  • Participate in the identification, planning and execution of equipment outages and major turnarounds.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to resolve issues and implement solutions.
What you must have:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering with 8+ years of related engineering experience
  • Must be registered with APEGA
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or equivalent Canadian engineering governing body would be preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills along with the ability to prioritize workload
  • Demonstrated commitment to Responsible Care
  • Ability to adapt to new situations and challenges and embrace change and new ideas
  • Self-motivated, focused on results, with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others
  • Comprehensive understanding of PFDs, P&IDs, control philosophies and heat and material balances
  • Experience with a variety of process hazard / risk analysis techniques and specific expertise in leading What If and Layers of Protection Analysis Studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multi-discipline teams (i.e., Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teams)
  • Plant support process engineering experience in Olefins/Polyethylene would be considered an asset
  • Experience with water treatment (municipal or industrial) would be considered an asset. Water treatment experience should include basic understanding of water chemistry, filtration, microbiology, corrosion, and various municipal and industrial water processes. Familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite, Aspen Simulation Packages, Aspen Process
  • Explorer, iPrism, FluidFlow Hydraulics and SAP would be beneficial
