Position: Family Support Worker, 2nd position

Status: Full-time Term Position, 35 hours per week,

Schedule: Core hours: 8:00am-3:30pm

Reporting to: Director of Health

Salary: $50,013 /per year

Summary

This position works under the Neskonlith Indian Band Social Worker providing direct family support to Neskonlith

families residing on Neskonlith a reasonable distance geographic to provide direct services, plus in general provides

community services to prevent family breakdown or social.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • supports families with advocacy and life skills, identifying and incorporating family for self-sufficiency, life skills and independence in families,
  • provides direct parenting support for parents and families,
  • work with families experiencing family breakdown,
  • engaging in activities that are inclusive and respectful to the Secwepmec culture and traditions,
  • engage families where needed to formal supports and resources with the goal of working with the whole family,
  • promote general wellness and security in the overall family unit.
  • Initiates and maintains regular contact with families,
  • Assists parents and extended family to improve their skills in the home environment for the child's well-being,
  • Assists the parents and grandparents to strengthen parent-child (grandparent-grandchild and other extended family) relationships to assist the family to increase their natural family or community supports.
  • Assists families with the transition of children from foster care back to their natural family and assisting parents and extended family members to stay attached to any children placed in care.
  • Provides information on parenting support and makes referrals to outside organizations,
  • Write detailed monthly reports and maintain weekly in-person meetings with Neskonlith Social Worker

Qualification

  • Good knowledge of social service systems and community resources,
  • Demonstrated client assessment and interviewing skills.
  • Understanding of crisis management and the ability to deal with life threatening situations, including suicide prevention,
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with people in a sensitive, tactful, diplomatic, and professional manner,
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary team and independently,
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills,
  • Advanced communication skills required, oral and written,
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills,
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions,
  • Willing to participate in job related training to further skills and knowledge.
  • Able to travel, as required,
  • Must be able to work occasional evening and weekend shifts,
  • Possess, always, BC Class 5 Drivers license and a reliable vehicle.
  • Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) required
