Woolwich Community Health Centre (WCHC), a multi-site health centre with locations in St. Jacobs, Linwood and Wellesley, is currently recruiting for two summer. Youth Community Workers position to provide program support the community services team. The hours of work each day will be 9:00 am – 5:00 pm for a total of 30 hours per week for 8 weeks, from June 24, 2024- August 16, 2024 at $19.95 per hour + 4% in lieu of benefits. The youth will work with the health centre's community services to plan and carry out specific projects outlined on the job description below. Orientation will include safety training for health care workers including correct usage of PPE.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with planning, organizing and evaluating health and mental wellness education sessions.
  2. Assist with the community garden for wellness project activities (help with recruiting volunteers and invitation to potential participants, care for vegetables, organize gardening related educational workshops).
  3. Gather information on community resources and supports in Woolwich and Wellesley
  4. Computer and data entry for health promotion activities and Woolwich Healthy Communities
  5. Assist with gathering information, including writing for the wellness blog posts.
  6. Provide clerical and administrative support.
  7. Assist with the Wellesley Youth Centre activities
  8. Other duties, as assigned by the community services team

Requirements:

  1. Proof of age less than 30 years old (this position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, which requires that applicants are under 30 years of age).
  2. Registration in a college or university in health or social services program or related area of study an asset
  3. Experience in a community-based setting and/or experience with rural populations would be considered an asset.
  4. Ability to manage multiple demands.
  5. Commitment to working as part of a team.
  6. Knowledge of/experience with health and social issues facing Woolwich and Wellesley residents
  7. Excellent communication skills.
  8. Organizational skills.
  9. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft office, other related software and social media.
  10. COVID-19 vaccination required.
  11. Access to a vehicle an asset.
  12. Ability to speak Low German an asset.
  13. Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the community.
