YW is looking to add a Visitation Facilitator to our team! The facilitator is responsible for supportive observation of supervised parenting time between non-residential parents, caregivers, and their children. The Visitation Facilitator will provide coaching and skill building opportunities around healthy relationships, co-parenting, emotional regulation, and brain development in addition to support, referrals, advocacy, and systems navigation to families experiencing restructuring, separation, and divorce. Approaching this work from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental perspective is essential to support the rebuilding of family bonds. The facilitator is responsible for being a positive and transparent member of the team who thrives in a fast-paced, independent, and highly communicative role.

This role is a part-time hourly position working Saturdays. This role is not eligible for a Hybrid- Work arrangement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Assist with family access client services cycle processes from inquiry, registration, intake, and discharge
  • Actively observe supervised parenting time in a neutral, non-judgmental way that avoids making assessments, opinions, or judgments on parenting and/or caregiving skills
  • Develop a collaborative and supportive relationship with each participant that you serve while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Intervene, in every required circumstance, during supervised parenting time when the safety of the child, program participants or others is at risk
  • Interact with challenging participants with respect, clear boundaries, and seek out assistance from your colleagues, supervisor, or on-call leader when necessary
  • Escort children to and from the visitation space and consult with residential adults regarding care instructions for visits
  • Use cross-cultural knowledge and understanding to work effectively with diverse clients, staff, volunteers, and students
  • Ensure ethical standards of practice are always maintained and responsible for ensuring participant privacy and confidentiality
  • Use a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to facilitate the development of parenting goals and use empathic, strengths-based approaches to guide parents in meeting goals
  • Offer coaching and skill building opportunities for program participants to engage in healthy relationships. This includes healthy communication, co-parenting, and emotional regulation skills
  • Provide information around healthy brain development and its relation to family dynamics / parenting
  • Respond to requests for information and/or services by phone or email as requested
  • Seek out and attend professional development activities related to supervised parenting time, domestic violence, parenting, family justice, family law, child development and other relevant topics
  • Keep current with program related literature, trends, and best practice in the field
  • Complete required training in a timely manner and is prepared to discuss learnings at team meetings
  • Participate in annual fuel performance process, sets work goals, and attends quarterly check-ins
  • Attends regular supervision meetings with Supervisor
  • Maintain regular communication with participants via phone and email and ensure all participant interactions are documented as per program processes
  • Maintain knowledge and skills in record keeping and ensure accurate data entry through regular self-audits
  • Ensures participant paperwork and case notes are completed accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with program and funder requirements
  • Maintains responsibility for login information and passwords for program technology adhering to organizational standards for privacy and confidentiality
  • Provide systems navigation, linking and referring program participants to appropriate services (internal and external) and informal support systems that will support and encourage healthy parenting and navigation of the family justice system as needed
  • Assess participant safety, develop, and create safety plans as required. This includes impulse management plans to support emotional regulation and problem solving when experiencing stress
  • Ensure program space is clean, activities and toys are maintained, and any safety hazards are identified and addressed
  • Participate in regular case consultation with the program Supervisor regarding assigned cases
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary's success in its programs and workplace
  • Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into one's role, work, and engagement with others, as aligned with YW Calgary's values and Practice Framework.
  • Share individual accountability to create and maintain inclusive and safe spaces and practices (physically and psychologically) that are open, transparent, and encourage accountability, advocacy, and mentorship.
  • Understand and remain current with YW Calgary Health, Safety and Wellness policies, practices and protocols and ensure work is performed in alignment with YW's culture
  • Inform team members and leaders to stop any unsafe work practices immediately to create awareness and injury/illness prevention
  • Report any hazards or incidents immediately to your leader in accordance with YW Calgary's incident reporting requirements to help ensure pro-active risk mitigation and management in compliance with legislative requirements (Occupational Health & Safety, Workers' Compensation Board, etc.)
  • Use all safety materials, equipment, devices, and tools required to safely perform work in alignment with YW's role and task requirements
  • Share individual accountability to create and maintain an inclusive environment the fosters a physical and psychologically safe workplace. Actively participate in the implementation of the National Standard for Psychological Health & Safety and integrate into all work practices and interactions with colleagues

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Child Studies, or related field or equivalent in education and experience
  • Current professional registration as applicable i.e., RSW
  • Alberta Family Wellness Initiative's Brain Story certification or to be completed within 3 months of employment
  • First Aid and CPR certification required
  • Certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
  • Experience working with families impacted by separation, divorce and/or domestic violence is an asset
  • Experience assisting families with systems navigation is an asset
