Summary

St. Margaret's School (SMS) is Western Canada's only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12). St. Margaret's School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Program.

Through coordination with teachers, administrators, and the IB Regional Office, the IB Diploma Programme Coordinator supervises and is accountable for the IBDP at SMS, providing pedagogical and administrative leadership for the programme, and is responsible for the full delivery of the curriculum including documentation, reporting, analysis and evaluation while ensuring adherence to the policies and procedures of the IB.

The Diploma Programme Coordinator character and capacities are guided by the IB Learner Profile and the IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

General Duties

  • Ensure that the IBDP programme is aligned with the programme standards and practices and general rules of the IB. Maintain complete academic records and documentation for programme evaluation purposes.
  • Develop and conduct or participate in regular in-house IBDP professional development - (ATT/ATL, assessment practices).
  • Identify DP-related professional development opportunities for faculty and keep a record of workshop attendance and school visits to ensure equality of opportunity to identify ongoing needs, and to complete authorization and program evaluation forms.
  • Supervise the overall IBDP curriculum and instruction including CORE elements for Year 1 and Year 2 of the Diploma Programme.
  • Lead regular IBDP meetings with faculty.
  • Maintain communication with the IB Regional Office related to programme, assessment and inclusive access reporting.
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of IB programming, direction and research outcomes.
  • Prepare communications for administration and the school community on IB organization developmental progress and changes.
  • Support the development and documentation of SMS IBDP curriculum.
  • Conduct regular collaborative meetings with IBDP teachers and support staff.
  • Ensure appropriate induction to the IBDP and provide support and information to new faculty.
  • Ensure teachers have completed appropriate IB subject workshops and have access to MyIB and Programme Resources.
  • Ensure teachers are aware of school IBDP policies.
  • Encourage and promote the understanding and practice of academic honesty.
  • Ensure the development of an action plan driven by the practices and program requirements included in the Program standards and practices and identify clear timelines, accountabilities and outcomes regarding the ongoing development of the programme, including a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Participate in the creation of weekly/annual subject and assessment schedules for the IBDP programme.
  • Collaborate with academic guidance counsellors in students' university/college applications process.
  • Awareness and understanding of the social/emotional needs of girls.
  • Superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills in working with colleagues and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Assessment and Examination responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit all internal assessments according to IB submission deadlines.
  • Ensure timely and accurate student registration for examinations.
  • Ensure appropriate conduct of examinations for all students and invigilators.
  • Analyze, communicate and distribute results according to school and IB processes.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Curriculum, plan collaboration and individual/group professional learning in response to recent and historical results.
  • IBDP Communication and Support responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver IBDP informational sessions with current and prospective parents, and students.
  • Ensure students and guardians are clear on IB Diploma Programme course requirements (curriculum and assessment requirements).
  • Collaborate with academic guidance counsellors in advising students on subject selection.
  • Advise on student transfer process.
  • Monitor and communicate student progress.
  • Work with the Personalized Learning and Enrichment Team to coordinate support where necessary.
  • Ensure regular communication with parents and guardians.

Required Education & Experience

  • Current and valid Teacher Certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch
  • 3+ Years of experience and advocacy working within an IB learning environment.
  • Experience teaching an IB Diploma Programme subject.
  • Exemplary teaching with a deep understanding of inquiry-based teaching and learning.
  • Role within the IBEN (IB Educator Network) would be considered an asset.
  • A deep understanding of the BC curriculum.
