JOB DESCRIPTION
The Flushing Technician works as part of the Production - Mechanical team specifically focused on hydro testing and flushing to commission systems and equipment, and demonstrate compliance with Classification Society and Customer requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure flushing requirements, e.g., required flow rates, proper fluids, and cleanliness specifications are communicated from Engineering and applied to the system(s) being flushed
  • Advise on and oversee installation of mechanical connections to complete flushing loops/circuits
  • Conduct system testing prior to energizing to confirm system integrity. (Example: Air Testing and Hydro testing)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve all flushing system issues
  • Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and perform ongoing maintenance of system flushing equipment (filter, heaters, pumps, etc)
  • Commission systems and equipment and demonstrate compliance with Classification Society and Customer requirements including:
    • Development of Set to Work/Testing/Trials procedures/agenda
    • Conducting Construction Turnover process with Production for assigned system(s)
    • Operation of ship systems and execution of test procedures and trial agendas, both ashore and at sea
    • Reporting of test agenda results to demonstrate that requirements have been met
    • Developing and managing detailed test schedules for assigned area of responsibility.
    • Coordinate setting of conditions necessary to support third-party / Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) conduct of trials & provide liaison support for their trials
    • Assess and resolve deficiencies on assigned system(s) following Construction Turn Over
    • Managing compliance with Lock-out/Tag-out systems' requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant technical diploma at the technologist level (eg: Marine, Chemical, Mechanical).
  • Directly relevant experience (Note: significant experience working with direct flushing may offset requirement for technical diploma)
  • Familiarity with processes and regulations working with oils
  • Familiarity with the design of state of the art new build ships or marine structures
  • Technical Skills - required skills to apply knowledge
  • Seagoing Naval engineering experience; Strong knowledge and experience with flushing piping systems and hydraulic tubing systems typically demonstrated over at least 5 years of experience.
  • Commissioning of new build vessels in a commercial shipyard; Commissioning of high tech systems in process or power plants
    Ability to visualize in third dimension and interpret blueprints and schematics
