ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald's Southwest Ontario Region is currently seeking a Plumbing Apprentice to join our Service Division in Sarnia, ON! If you are a hands-on, customer service-oriented, and technically inclined professional searching for the opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The Plumbing Apprentice position is located in Sarnia, ON and will report directly to the Operations Supervisor, Plumbing.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, a great attitude, and a genuine passion for the trade. The Plumbing Apprentice is required to be skilled in all manner of pipe joining methods; comfortable with the use of common industry specific hand tools, power tools and diagnostic tools as well as being adept at reading and interpreting technical literature. Day-to-day work may sometimes require long hours and lifting heavy loads. This position will also be client facing, so customer service skills are a must.

  • Duties & Responsibilities
  • Move/haul material, pull water lines, fire caulking, thread pipe and assist with any other required plumbing tasks.
  • Under direction from Ops Supervisor and/or Journeyperson, assist in performing planned maintenance activities on commercial plumbing and heating equipment.
  • Under direction, learn to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial plumbing and heating systems.
  • Participate in the Black & McDonald SWO Apprentice Skills Program to learn the technical and business skills needed to successfully become a certified Plumber Journeyperson.
  • Complete daily service reports documenting maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities using B&M mobile service reporting application.
  • Work in a team to complete work efficiently, on time, and on budget.
  • As necessary, communicate clearly and effectively with customers, suppliers, and team members via phone, text, email, and mobile applications.
  • May be required to participate in rotating 24/7 emergency on call supports, depending on the apprentice's level.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in plumbing or related field.
  • Active 306A Apprenticeship registered with Skilled Trades Ontario or a willingness to join
  • Gas Technician Certificate is considered an asset
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Relevant service industry experience required
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Clean Ontario G Class Driver's License and abstract required
  • Mechanical aptitude with a strong work ethic and the desire to continuously learn
  • Ability to use, lift and handle heavy tools and equipment weighing up to 25 kg
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Thrives in various environments
  • Independent worker who is also a good team player
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook and mobile device applications.
