The Program Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, instruction, and coordination of a limited range of community-based programs in accordance with the Salvation Army mission, values, and standards. The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision of volunteers in a range of community-based programs and seasonal staffing requirements within established guidelines. The incumbent will also work in collaboration with the Ministry Unit lead to support other staff during scheduled vacation and busy working conditions. Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of a Community College Diploma, Social Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker or equivalent of at least one academic year.
  • Current, valid First Aid & CPR Certification or willingness to be trained.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including, experience in a variety of social service programs, with some supervisory experience, and experience communicating orally and in writing.
  • Must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse culture, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background check search.
  • Work in compliance with local policies, WSBC Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Hold a valid BC Class 5 driver's license, a copy of a driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Lead by example, demonstrate a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Able to effectively complete multiple tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines and responsibilities.

HOURS: Tuesday through Friday 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm and Sunday 10:00 am to 1:00 pm as per operational requirements and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Occasional travel and some scheduled overtime is associated with this position.Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
