Responsibilities:

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert to provide design solutions and assessments for new, updated and modified process systems, including safety systems.
  • Supervises the detailed design of process systems, equipment and modifications thereof including their layout, design, analysis, support, and registration.
  • Plan and develop engineering projects concerned with unique and difficult or complex problems.
  • Conceive and develop programs and long-range technical plans, establishing objectives and priorities. Define technical direction, devise methods of achieving program objectives in the most economical and effective manner.
  • Contribute to the growth of engineering services and knowledge and keep conversant with advanced technological trends and developments.
  • Provide nuclear process system design technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to engineers and/or other technical employees;
  • Provide services to operating CANDU utilities that are aimed at ensuring the reliable and safe operation of new and operating stations.
  • Provide nuclear process and safety design system expertise in support of Engineering proposals and requests from existing stations.
  • Interface with internal and external stake holders.
  • Support Engineering Management.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality program.
  • Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
  • Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science. Master's or Ph. D related to this expertise is an asset.
  • A minimum of 30 years of experience in CANDU nuclear process and safety design/analysis, providing design solutions for CANDU nuclear power plants.
  • Strong technical knowledge of all aspects encompassing the CANDU design safety and safety related systems including the associated nuclear processes, analyses, equipment, and control.The candidate should be fully competent in the engineering fundamentals supporting the design and operation of CANDU process systems.
  • Ability to plan, estimate, propose and execute complex safety and safety related systems service work.
  • Must have excellent technical/practical skills and solid understanding of CANDU design to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities.
  • Working knowledge of/experience of ASME, CSA, CNSC Acts/Regulations, NUREG, US NRC 10CFR 50/52, IEEE, INPO, EPRI and other applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills. Ability to effectively represent AtkinsRéalis in national and international forums related to CANDU technology, including preparation and presentation of technical papers.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
  • Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
