About this team:
More than 16,000 patients undergo surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital every year. We are experts in and globally recognized for our specialized Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Orthopedic Surgery programs. Specialties utilizing the Main Operating Room/Cysto are General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Otolaryngology, Lasers, Ophthalmology, Oral Surgery and Orthopaedics - both Reconstructive and Sarcoma. The Main Operating Room has 3 state-of-the-art Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) suites. This team has sponsorship opportunities available for nurses interested in obtaining OR certification. In this role you will:

Perform the duties of the scrub nurse
Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned
Perform nursing interventions within the RPN scope of practice
Contribute to the patient assessment process
Implement patients' plan of care including but not limited to performing and/or providing assistance for a defined range of strategies and surgical interventions
Collaborate with other members of intraprofessional and interdisciplinary health care team.
Act as a patient advocate
Contribute to the smooth functioning and efficiency of the unit
Participate in professional development and continuing education and engages in self-reflection to facilitate personal and professional growth
Work in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act
Job Requirements

Mandatory

Current RPN certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Minimum 1-2 years' experience in the Perioperative setting
A diploma or equivalent from a CNO-approved practical nursing program
Successful completion of RPN Operating Room program
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred

Experience using an electronic health records

Excellent health and clinical assessment skills
Demonstrated ability in providing quality patient-focused care and addressing the fundamental care needs of patients and their families
Proven ability to make sound professional judgements and practice decisions, and demonstrate effective time-management and organizational skills in a fast-paced work environment
Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
Excellent oral, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in English
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others including patients and their families
Computer proficiency and/or Basic to Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (e.g. Word, Outlook)
Demonstrated satisfactory job performance and attendance history required
Familiarity with:
CNO Code of Conduct and Professional Standards
Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991
