About SkyAcres

SkyAcres is redefining how we grow and access food - building modular vertical farms that turn underutilized spaces into clean, efficient, year-round sources of fresh produce. Our farms grow more with less and deliver hyper-local, pesticide-free greens to retailers, restaurants, and food creators within hours of harvest.

We're growing fast, and we're looking for reliable, hands-on team members to help us keep our systems thriving and our produce flowing.

SkyAcres has been recognized as a leader in agricultural innovation and clean technology:

  • Named one of the Top 20 AgTech Startups in the World by the Grow-NY Global Food Innovation Competition
  • Funded by Google for Startups, as part of their North American accelerator cohort
  • Voted 2nd Best Startup in British Columbia (2025)

We're building not just a product, but a movement - and the world is starting to take notice.

Role Overview

As a Vertical Farm Operator, you'll support the daily upkeep of our farming systems to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality, pesticide-free produce. From harvesting and packaging to monitoring misting cycles and helping with installations, your work will help power the next generation of sustainable food systems.

You'll primarily work from our Surrey HQ ( 4 days/week), with 1 day/week in Abbotsford supporting a partner site. This is an ideal role for someone dependable, detail-oriented, and excited to be part of a fast-moving, hands-on team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain SkyAcres' modular vertical farming systems
  • Harvest, weigh, and package produce with care and precision
  • Monitor misting cycles, water levels, lighting schedules, and plant health
  • Follow cleanliness and food safety protocols
  • Assist with installations, experimental trials, and minor system troubleshooting
  • Prepare and organize produce for delivery

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between Surrey and Abbotsford
  • Comfortable with hands-on work in indoor lab and warehouse environments
  • Strong attention to detail and task follow-through
  • Experience in food handling, horticulture, or general labor is an asset
  • Must be under 30 and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (funding requirement)

Perks

  • Full training provided - no prior vertical farming experience required
  • Mileage reimbursement for travel
  • Work closely with engineers, biologists, and system designers
  • Opportunities for long-term growth within operations, R&D, or leadership

Side Project Opportunities

At SkyAcres, we believe in unlocking your full potential - not just in your core role, but beyond it. Team members are encouraged to spend part of their time exploring side projects that align with their interests or curiosity. Whether you're looking to pick up new skills, explore a different part of the company, or just try something fun and hands-on, we've got you covered.

Optional opportunities include:

  • Learning basic engineering or plant science by running beginner-friendly experiments
  • Traveling with the system setup team - upcoming trips include Kelowna, New York State, and Toronto
  • Collaborating on UX/UI design and prototyping for SkyAcres' mobile apps
  • Teaching students about vertical farming, agri-business, and the future of food
  • Supporting R&D with ideas that can make their way into real farms across Canada

We value curiosity, creativity, and initiative - and we're building a culture where side projects can spark real impact.
