The Manager, Donor Engagement & Communications, is a key contributor to the success of the Boreal Healthcare Foundation's fundraising and stewardship programs. This role leads donor engagement and retention strategies across annual, monthly and mid-level giving, stewardship, direct mail, community fundraising, grateful patient engagement, and legacy giving support. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Manager is responsible for ensuring personalized, timely, and impactful donor communications and experiences that support donor retention and growth.

This role works closely with consultants, internal teams, and the Philanthropy & Sponsorship Associate to coordinate data, messaging, and touchpoints across multiple channels. It is a hands-on position that requires excellent project management, relationship-building, and communications coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Mail & Donor Communications

  • Manage project timelines and coordination of direct mail and email campaigns with external consultants
  • Oversee donor segmentation and list development for appeals and newsletters
  • Collaborate with the Director, Marketing & Communications on messaging and creative oversight
  • Ensure accurate donor communication and alignment with campaign priorities

Grateful Patient Program

  • With the Director, Marketing & Communications, develop and implement a comprehensive Grateful Patient Program and work to ensure uptake with SHA leadership and hospital staff.
  • Coordinate with SHA leadership and physicians to encourage story referrals and participation
  • Collect, secure permissions for, and prepare patient and staff stories for use in campaigns and communications
  • Build internal awareness of the program and manage a pipeline of stories for donor engagement
  • Create and manage direct mail and digital campaigns inspired by patient stories and healthcare milestones.
  • Monitor and report on program effectiveness and donor conversion.

Direct Marketing and Communications

  • Manage the Foundation's direct response fundraising efforts, including: Annual appeal mailings, Email fundraising campaigns, and donor newsletters and impact reporting
  • Oversee and coordinate external writing and creative contractors engaged for direct marketing and communications projects.
  • Manage project timelines, content reviews, and approvals to ensure high-quality donor communications.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to align messaging across campaigns.

Donor Engagement & Mid-Level Giving ($1,000-$9,999)

  • Lead strategy and renewal efforts for mid-level gifts through segmented communications and targeted campaigns
  • Identify opportunities to upgrade annual donors into mid-level giving
  • Coordinate direct solicitation (mail/email) and personal outreach where appropriate
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy & Sponsorship Specialist on overlapping prospects and transitions

Donor Engagement Events

  • Lead the planning and execution of donor-centered engagement events such as: Give A Little Life Day Radiothon, The Med Gala (with support from contracted Event Planner), The Lynx Golf Tournament, and Smaller stewardship and cultivation events
  • Oversee contracted event planning services for major events to ensure brand consistency and donor-centered experiences.
  • Manage event logistics, volunteer coordination, guest experience, and post-event stewardship follow-up.

Community Fundraising (Third-Party)

  • Support and steward individuals and organizations planning community fundraising initiatives
  • Provide fundraising toolkits and onboarding to third-party groups
  • Track outcomes and ensure post-event stewardship and communications

Legacy Giving Program Support

  • Support the promotion and donor stewardship activities associated with the Foundation's Legacy Giving Program.
  • Collaborate with the Director and CEO to implement legacy donor communications, recognition strategies, and marketing initiatives.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and volunteers to deliver exceptional stewardship and engagement experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or equivalent experience is an asset.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, communications, or nonprofit program management.
  • Demonstrated success in mid-level or annual giving programs, stewardship, or direct response is an asset.
  • Experience overseeing external contractors for event planning and creative services.
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with CRMs or donor databases (preferred).
  • Knowledge of healthcare philanthropy or nonprofit sector is an asset.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the mission of the organization.

Location: Prince Albert, SK

Salary Range: $50,000 - $85,000

The Boreal Healthcare Foundation uses a three-tier salary band structure to support transparency and growth. Placement within the band will be based on experience and qualifications.

  • Developmental: $50,000 - $59,999
  • Fully Competent: $60,000 - $69,999
  • High Performance: $70,000 - $85,000
