Recipe Unlimited Corporation is Canada's leading full service restaurant company. Home to such iconic brands as Swiss Chalet, Harvey's, St. Hubert, The Keg, Montana's, Kelsey's, Bier Markt, East Side Mario's, The Landing Group, New York Fries, The Burger's Priest, Pickle Barrel & Catering, State & Main, Elephant & Castle, Original Joe's and Fresh Kitchen + Juice Bar Restaurants. With this diverse portfolio of restaurants our Home Office Teammates have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of some of the most popular, well-loved brands in Canada. Variety isn't the only thing we offer - we are passionate about our industry, we celebrate and support diversity of thought, we are innately curious and encourage our Teammates to take ownership. Above all else, we believe in doing the right thing for our people, our communities and our planet.

Primary function of Analyst GIS, Portfolio Insights is to support the Market Development Director and the broader Real Estate Development Team, by providing (a) geospatial analyses, market planning and site selection strategies, and (b) the development of analog based analytical and reporting tools, as relates to sales forecasting, and impact analysis, both of which will be providing data-driven insights to key stakeholders.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintain and develop new enhancements that will be implemented into SitewisePro, our SaaS cloud-based mapping platform that is primarily used for real estate development, market planning, portfolio management, demographic analyses and general spatial analyses. This includes the monthly preparation of restaurants' total rent calculations, that are obtained from our existing lease administration software, and the updated franchisee details
  • Develop, test, deploy and maintain brand and region specific statistical and spatially enabled sales analog models, for determining the expected sales call for new store openings (NSO) and to support their business case. Also design, test and implement a GIS-based brand market and sales impact and cannibalization analysis tool(s)
  • Design, develop and standardize brand-specific new market development plans (3-5 years outlook), making use of restaurant performance analogs, market demographics and guest profiles, and obtain brand alignment and approval
  • Maintain and enhance the existing Smartsheets NSO/Construction/Renovations Project Management Tool, and the ad-hoc creation and maintenance of custom deal summary and lease renewal reports. Also will play an integral role in the continued migration of data (from lease administration software and Google Sheets)
  • With the use of Sitewise Pro and a variety of desktop GIS software, maintain existing and develop new geospatial databases. Will also carry out market research, ad-hoc spatial analyses and will analyze complex data-driven business issues (e.g., sales analysis) and trends in order to support the Real Estate Department and other business areas within the company. Will also research markets and generate the Site Approval Packages (SAP) for all new store openings (NSO) that go before our Real Estate Committee (REC). All approved franchised locations also require that a Franchise Sale Package (FSP) is generated

What we are looking for from you:

  • University degree, preferably with a Masters - focused on Geography, GIS or related field of study. With strong aptitude for statistical and "big data" analytics
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Expert knowledge of GIS software, such as QGIS, MapInfo, ArcGIS and Google Maps/Earth
  • Strong knowledge of Python, SQL and R, or other similar industry standard tools used for large-scale data analysis and modeling
  • Advanced knowledge of online cloud-computing applications such Google Big Query & Looker (must also have advanced working knowledge in Google Sheets, Slides, Docs and Forms)
  • Exceptional knowledge of Advanced Excel. Must possess a strong knowledge of relational databases, and be well versed in implementing and executing SQL and VBA queries and modules (Pivot Tables, V/X Lookups)
  • Familiarity with industry leading data preparation, analysis and visualization tools (Data Studio, Alteryx, FME and Tableau)
  • Demonstrated ability in developing a "strong narrative" based on data and analytics, in order to communicate complex analytical solutions and the underlying impacts to our business
  • Advanced knowledge of traditional and "best-in-class" emerging market research, geodemographic, analog-based modeling, and statistical analyses approaches and methodologies
  • Strong analytical, organizational and research skills
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Sense of urgency

What's in it for you?

  • Flexible/Hybrid work environment
  • You'd be joining a close-knit, innovative team of creative and energetic go-getters
  • You'd be a part of Canada's largest full-service restaurant company that leads the industry in size and innovation
  • 20% associate discount dining card and monthly dining allowance valid at participating Recipe brands
  • A welcoming, fun and safe work environment founded on respect
  • Career advancement opportunities with a company that owns some of Canada's most iconic restaurant brands
  • Industry-leading benefits, wellness programs, and total rewards programs
