Job Summary

The Expert Solution Design - Storage and Data Protection will be leading the storage and the backup/recover practice. As a storage lead, the expert will work with the project and support teams to develop, configure, and optimise CN's storage eco-systems composed of onsite, offsite virtual and cloud-based solutions. As a backup and recovery lead, the incumbent acts as the key SME on data protection solutions to formulate and implement the governance and practices covering all risks from system failure to cyber security.

The end goal is to ensure that CN's data are always protected, and its backup and storage solutions are compliant with the latest industry best practices.

Main Responsibilities
Operation Expertise

Optimise our storage footprint and modernize our backup solution

Work with CN support team to ensure Storage and backup platforms are maintained in a fully operational condition

Build and implement a strong data protection roadmap and governance

Monitor effectiveness of the data protection governance

Conduct regular backup and recovery assessments

Maintain CN's backup policies up to date and compliant with best practices

Drive storage and backup operational requirements for all new project including cloud solutions

Liaise with Architecture, Cloud Engineering and Operation to ensure feasibility of solution

Collaborate with Security and internal audit teams to ensure compliance with our controls and standards

Create strategies to improve productivity and efficiency around automation, Cap & Perf

Leading Others

Lead others to determine proper service introduction, efficiency and service lifecycle

Lead virtual teams towards defined outcome including events, initiatives, and continuous improvement

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. The role requires minimal travel (5%) to CN locations in Canada and US.

Requirements
Experience

Minimum 10 years of overall work experience in Storage and backup operation

Education/Certification/Designation

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Google Cloud certification an asset

Competencies

Proficiency in the latest storage, backup and recovery technologies

Have implemented and supported an enterprise backup/recover program covering on-premise and cloud eco-system

Have administered an on-premise and cloud storage farm (SAN/NAS)

Strong Knowledge of SOX controls

Strong knowledge of contract, license, and cloud cost control (FinOps)

Inspires others with impactful communications and adapts to the audience through speech and writing

Applies analytical thinking

Innovates through problem solving

Technical Skills/Knowledge

Strong knowledge of storage SAN and NAS technologies

Strong knowledge of backup HW and SW technologies

Strong knowledge of cloud storage technologies such as Google object storage
