Reporting to the Director, Policy, Analysis & Systems Management, and also (dotted line) to the Faculty's Director, Information Technology, the Manager, Education Technology & Systems Management will lead the development, planning and implementation of technology systems and strategies for our Faculty's Medical Education IT integration and alignment. Leveraging your exemplary technical expertise, leadership of transformational IT projects, and knowledge of medical education curriculum and its processes, you will play a critical role in advising and building consensus among stakeholders on collaborative technology solutions that advance our medical education goals and priorities. You will proactively and collaboratively lead and oversee the technical design, development and integration of software applications used by staff, Faculty, learners and end users within our affiliated hospital network. You will negotiate strategies and agreements with external vendors to facilitate transitions and migrations of information technology platforms. Your strong people management skills will allow you to excel as a leader and mentor to a team of staff and drive the delivery of exceptional systems development, integration, and maintenance.

Essential Qualifications

  • University degree in Computer Science or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience, largely responsible for leading transformational IT projects related to medical education and/or postgraduate medical education within a University, government. or healthcare setting.
  • Proven expertise in identifying ways to enhance and integrate technology.
  • In-depth knowledge of postgraduate medical education, including an understanding of curriculum and assessment solutions in that context
  • Proven ability to conduct research into technical or project-related issues and products, to continually improve processes and solutions as technology changes.
  • Demonstrated full-cycle project management experience, including scoping projects and the leadership of project teams.
  • Experience conducting needs assessments to identify and evaluate systems requirements and translate project plans
  • Demonstrated experience streamlining processes with automated solutions
  • Significant management experience, leading and mentoring staff, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets and implementing financial management standards and practices
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to understand, analyze and improve complex administrative processes, to assess options and possibilities and to plan, develop and implement complex IT technology and systems
  • Excellent understanding of relational database systems, preferably with student information systems and University of Toronto systems
  • Ability to write SQL queries, and assist in the development of applications
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communications skills in order to persuade, and present technical and non-technical concepts to persons with both strong and limited technical backgrounds
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups with disparate interests
  • Strong decision-making skills; strong planning and project management skills, focusing on executing and completing tasks under pressure and managing conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to train and motivate staff to work collaboratively toward the goals of the office
  • Ability to solve problems in a strategic and tactical manner; strong conflict management skills
