The Packaging Team Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the packaging at PORTA. This includes ensuring adherence to GMP, HACCP, and SOPs, managing the team's performance, and ensuring products are packaged correctly and safely. The Packaging Team Lead is tasked with ensuring that metal detection, packaging accuracy, labeling, and carton selection are all in compliance with operational and regulatory standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product quality, food safety, and operational efficiency in line with company policies and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and supervise the Packaging Team, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards are met.
- Coordinate and delegate tasks effectively to meet production deadlines.
- Provide ongoing training and development to team members on proper packaging procedures, food safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
Packaging Process Management
- Oversee the entire packaging process, ensuring products are packaged according to Work Orders (WO's), company SOPs and HACCP guidelines.
- Ensure packaging materials, including cartons, labels, and other components, meet the correct specifications (i.e., Canadian vs. US packaging requirements).
- Verify that all product packaging is in compliance with GMP and HACCP standards.
- Ensure proper sealing and labeling of products, including correct date coding, lot codes, and other required information.
- Monitor and ensure that metal detection verifications occur as per SOPs, and record metal detector test results accurately.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Ensure the use of the correct versions of packaging materials (e.g., packaging labels, cartons) and ensure alignment with production requirements (e.g., CDN vs. US).
- Ensure the correct application of lot codes/expiry dates.
- Conduct regular quality checks to confirm that all packaged products meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor production lines to ensure products are packaged correctly, with no deviations from approved processes.
- Record and report packaging-related quality issues, product discrepancies, and non-compliance to management.
- Ensure that all team members follow food safety regulations, including proper hygiene practices and PPE use.
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure that all packaging processes, quality checks, and metal detection tests are properly documented and recorded in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate production logs and reports, including metal detector records, packaging batch numbers, and inventory usage.
- Review packaging reports and communicate any discrepancies or issues with the team and management.
- Work with the Quality Assurance team to maintain and update SOPs, ensuring compliance with the latest regulatory requirements.
Safety & Food Safety Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols, ensuring that team members are following safe operating practices.
- Ensure all packaging activities are conducted in compliance with food safety standards such as HACCP, GMP, and CFIA regulations.
- Identify and address any safety hazards or risks in the packaging area and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Participate in safety audits and assist in the development of action plans to correct identified risks.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform any other duties as required to support packaging and production goals.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving any packaging-related issues during production.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Required:
- Proven leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably in packaging.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, CFIA regulations, and SOPs in a food manufacturing context.
- Experience with metal detection equipment and knowledge of metal detection verification processes.
- Ability to effectively manage and motivate a team to achieve production and quality goals.
- Familiarity with packaging materials, including cartons, labels, and compliance requirements (CDN vs. US).
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate documentation and reporting processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to ensuring food safety and quality standards are met.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in cold environments as required for food safety.
