Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, the Energy Services Manager leads the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of energy programs, projects and initiatives supporting NSMTC's seven Member Nations and their participation in the energy transition.

This is an opportunity for a manager who brings strong project leadership, sound financial judgement and a commitment to meaningful Indigenous participation in the energy sector. The role leads the Atlantic Indigenous-Led Energy Symposium, oversees divisional operations and projects, and develops funding and sponsorship opportunities.

What You'll Do

  • The manager supports and develops employees, builds trusted relationships with Member Nations, government, utilities and industry partners, and provides timely analysis and recommendations to the Director of Technical Services.
  • Lead Energy Services work plans, priorities and program delivery in alignment with NSMTC and Member Nation goals, monitoring outcomes and identifying emerging energy opportunities.
  • Lead, coach and develop assigned employees; establish clear expectations, manage workloads and foster a respectful, collaborative and accountable team environment.
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate the Atlantic Indigenous-Led Energy Symposium, including programming, youth engagement, partnerships, logistics and sponsorship.
  • Manage a portfolio of energy projects and initiatives from concept, scope and funding through implementation, risk management, reporting and close-out.
  • Oversee divisional operations, administrative processes, procurement and third-party contracts, ensuring appropriate oversight of deliverables and obligations.
  • Develop grant applications, funding proposals and sponsorship opportunities; manage funder and sponsor relationships and associated commitments.
  • Manage approved budgets and resources, monitor expenditures and forecasts, support year-end processes and ensure compliance with funding agreements and financial controls.
  • Build and sustain respectful relationships with Member Nation leadership and staff, government agencies, energy utilities, industry and community partners.
  • Identify and manage operational, project, financial and people-related risks; make decisions within delegated authority and escalate significant issues appropriately.
  • Work across NSMTC teams to strengthen coordination, systems and service delivery, and support Indigenous participation and community capacity in the energy sector.
  • Prepare clear reports, briefings and presentations for the Director of Technical Services, senior leadership, the Board and external partners as required.

What You Bring

  • You are an experienced, collaborative manager with strong project management skills and the ability to lead programs, people and relationships in a community-focused environment.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, project management, environmental science, finance, public relations, business administration or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in project management or related program delivery, including coordinating multiple projects, budgets, timelines and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, including coaching employees, establishing priorities and supporting team performance.
  • Experience developing proposals, securing funding or sponsorships, managing budgets and funding agreements, and preparing performance and financial reports.
  • Strong judgement, organization, risk management, analytical and problem-solving skills, including knowing when to consult or escalate decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, presentation and relationship-building skills with diverse communities, government and industry partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn relevant project, financial and collaboration systems.
  • Experience in the Atlantic Canadian energy sector, working with First Nation communities, and a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation are assets.
  • Spoken and written English is required; proficiency in Mi'kmaq is an asset.
