Job Title: HR & Safety Manager

Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

TP-GGL-10241

Meridia Recruitment Solutions is pleased to partner with The Gasparetto Group Limited ("TGGL" or the "Group") in the recruitment of an HR & Safety Manager.

TGGL is a group of companies comprised of Progressive Cabinetry and Millwork Ltd., R&D Crane Operators Limited and Burnside Truck Center Ltd. and is a well-established Nova Scotia group of companies. From its three operating entities, the Group specializes in custom cabinetry and architectural millwork, mobile crane services and auto, truck and trailer repair services. Based in Burnside, the Group has built a reputation for strong customer service and high-quality products, whether it's the kitchen in your home, the car in your driveway or moving a key piece of infrastructure for your business.

As the Group continues to grow and evolve, the organization is looking to strengthen its leadership capacity with the addition of an HR & Safety Manager. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad and influential portfolio and become a trusted partner to leaders across the organization.

Reporting to the Chief Operating and Finance Officer, the HR & Safety Manager will provide leadership across all aspects of human resources while supporting a strong and effective approach to workplace health and safety. Working closely with leaders and employees across office, manufacturing, and field environments, you will bring a practical and people-focused approach to supporting the needs of the businesses.

Your Responsibilities

As HR & Safety Manager, you will:

  • Provide trusted advice and guidance to leaders on employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, and organizational matters.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and other initiatives that support the attraction and retention of talent.
  • Manage employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, performance concerns, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
  • Support compensation, benefits, payroll processes, policies, and broader HR programs.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for workplace health and safety programs, training, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage workers' compensation, return-to-work programs, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain effective HR and safety policies, systems, records, and reporting.
  • Build strong relationships across the organization and maintain a visible presence within all areas of the operations.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen people practices and safety programs in support of the organization's continued growth.

Your Qualifications

You are a practical, approachable, and highly credible HR professional who understands that strong people leadership is built on relationships, sound judgement, and a genuine understanding of the business. You are naturally comfortable working with a wide range of personalities and know how to earn trust with everyone from ownership and senior leaders to supervisors and employees in the field. You bring confidence without ego and are equally willing to provide thoughtful counsel, challenge thinking when necessary, or roll up your sleeves and work through an issue firsthand. You are resourceful and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy, using your experience and judgement to navigate situations that do not always have an obvious answer. Flexible and adaptable, you can shift between competing priorities while remaining calm, organized, and responsive to the needs of the business. You understand the realities of an operational environment and bring a balanced approach that considers both people and business needs.

Your qualifications include:

  • Progressive human resources experience, ideally within a construction, manufacturing, industrial, trades, or similarly operational environment.
  • Broad generalist experience across employee relations, recruitment, performance management, investigations, and HR programs.
  • Experience supporting workplace health and safety programs, workers' compensation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Working knowledge of applicable employment and occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility at all levels of an organization.
  • The judgement, adaptability, and initiative to work independently across a diverse portfolio of responsibilities.
  • A hands-on approach and comfort working across office, manufacturing, and field environments.
  • Experience with both human resources and workplace safety is an asset.

Why the Gasparetto Group Limited?

The TGGL offers the opportunity to have a meaningful impact within an established and growing local organization. In this role, you'll work closely with leadership and have the autonomy and influence to strengthen HR and safety practices across the business. You'll build trusted relationships, bring forward new ideas, and help shape programs and processes that support both employees and operations. With a broad mandate and direct connection to the business, you'll be able to see the impact of your work and play an important role in supporting the Group's continued growth.
